This question is posed to those that have played Tactics and did NOT think it was a great game, or those who would go so far as to say they hate it. Why do you feel that this game failed to deliver on the promises inherent in an FF title? Please give your reason, so I can better understand why anyone would dislike this game. Who knows? Perhaps one of you skilled debaters can get me to hate the very game I currently love above all others.

You won't get an argument from me. Tactics is one of the better Final Fantasy games, in my opinion.

I'd be interested in hearing what problems some people have with it. The difficulty comes to mind first. Tactics is tough...but some people may prefer extremely hard games.

I know my boyfriend did not care much for Tactics. I think he just could not get into the story, though I'm not positive. I'll have to ask next time I see him.

I liked Tactics, but I think people may have disliked it because of how difficult it was, and how different it is when compared to other FF games.

It is quite an intimidating game. I have it sitting here, unplayed for a month, and I'm afraid to play it. Don't know why. But I cannot say that it is a bad game. I like the game a lot, but I just can't stomach it right now.

First off, I just want to say that I too love FFT, but I think I understand some of the reasons some people don't...

An SRPG of this range can be quite intimidating to the average, or passing, FF fan...Quite an encompassing Job Class System as well. To get anywhere in FFT you have to level up more than you probably do in most of the other FFs...The story can also feel stilted because of this...and character development, like with most SRPGs, is next to non-existent. I've also talked to some people that say that it takes too long for the game to go through the enemies turn or something? idk about that complaint though...I don't recall it being that big of a deal...w/e I guess...

To me, and most FFT fans, there are just far more good qualities that outweigh any of the previously mentioned possible negatives...

I put FFT as one of the series best, easy. I haven't been able to play War of the Lions though...

I've actually yet to hear anyone talk about the game badly. I haven't played War Of the Lions yet (can't wait to do so on Sunday though) but Tactics was an amazing game on the PS, the story was immensly deep and gripping which is why I think it has had so many great reviews. I would like to see if people didn't like it though. >_<

The difficulty issue was definately something I expected. I have a friend that threw in the towel at the Dorter battle (the one with the mages, archers, and knights). Sad, because if you can persevere, the story is even sweeter, as you know first hand a fraction of the hardship the character himself had to go through.

I'm actually surprised. I assumed lots of people didn't like tactics because no one ever mentions it at all outside its sub-forum. Good to know it is getting the love it deserves, or at least closer to it than I had originally thought.

Nobody mentions about Tactics because it's likely very few actually had a chance to play the thing for whatever reason, Europe have the chance to get it on the PSP finally but even Tactics won't justify me rushing out to get a PSP right now. It is on my To-Buy list.

Anyway it's always been looked upon in a good light by both critics and fans so not too sure where you got the idea that people hate it.

It seems I have posted upon a false assumption. My curiosity is sated. I see now that it is as Scrutator explained, that the problem arises not from a dislike of the game, but from a lack of exposure. Thank you all for your enlightening input. Before this becomes a Tactics fan thread, perhaps it would be a good idea to close it.

Ah, yeah. I'll admit, I did get a little impatient at times when I was facing off against half a dozen or more enemies. Their turns seemed to last for an eternity at times. Definitely not grounds for disliking the game as a whole, though. Minor complaint.

Tactics is fast becoming one of my favourites. The only problem I have with it is when people join your party and they don't participate in the story, like Cloud, Balthier and Reis. OK, they have there own special abilities, but it would be like Rikku joining your party in X and not diving into her story, no Al Bhed Home, no fighting with Wakka, etc.

EDIT - I stumbled a part of the game where Reis and Lionel play main roles in Lionel, so, I no longer count them as non participants

Yeah, but the whole Cloud thing is more of a sidequest/Easter egg for Tactics...the characters & everything you get from that aren't really supposed to fit in w/the main story, I don't think...now, it'd be great if they also added to the story somewhat, but what're you gonna do? Not every game deals with sidequests as well as Chrono Trigger. :P

I think the one thing I can honestly say I hated about it was the limited party numbers...I think you can take out your whole beginning party and you still won't be able to add all of the characters that can join you...

OH! And Barius Hill!!! All those damnedable Chocobo battles...like 2 reds, 2 blacks, 4 yellows! WTF?!? I'm only allowed a 5 member party!!!
