This has been bugging me for ages

Okay, for awhile this has been bugging me. I would probably ask my LS but never did because I never wanted to come across like a complete noob. I have googled and found nothing. Here goes.

How the hell do people get NPC's to follow them and help in battle? I have even looked up the Help Desk and the closest I got was "No, NPC's can't join your party". Then why the hell do they not explain why NPC's follow characters around?

Please someone put me out of my misery and tell me.

Never played XI before, but from what I understand, you should go on a quest and perhaps once you do all the prerequisite for a particular quest, NPC's might come and aid you.

Or, better yet...

You obtain the Signal Pearl which allows you to call your Adventuring Fellow after completing the following quests (in the following order):

1. Unlisted Qualities - Note: Must be Rank 4 to start
2. Girl in the Looking Glass
3. Mirror, Mirror

So you might wanna try to complete those quests first, then see what happens. Hope this helps a little.
