The Touhou Project is a series of 2D (with 3D background) vertically-scrolling danmaku shooting games made by Team Shanghai Alice, with three fighting game spinoffs co-produced with Tasogare Frontier. They are similar to regular shooting games, but focus more on weaving through complex patterns containing anywhere from dozens to hundreds of bullets. Every game in the Touhou series is set in the fantasy land of Gensokyo, and the series is known for its huge cast of characters, well-developed storylines, and related materials such as music CDs, fan-made comics and animated videos made to the music.

It's big outside Japan, and it's everywhere inside Japan. It's really popular. I'm dissapointed that there aren't a lot of fans here.

Start with Imperishable Night, then Perfect Cherry Blossom or Subteranean Animism or Mountain of Faith. Also, watch out, because the games are VERY HARD.

I have played TH8, TH10, TH11 and TH10.5 (Scarlet Weather Rhapsody). However, I only managed to finish TH8 and TH10.5 on EASY MODE. It's hard.

My favourite characters are Reisen and Cirno. Maybe Flandre for having an awesome theme and awesome wings. Probably Eirin too. I like Marisa and Reimu equally.

Hellz motherfucking yeah. We've been waiting for this thread for a while now. As you can see from our avatar and signature, we're fans of the series as well. We started with Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil and fell in love. Recently, we've been going back and starting from the first one.

However that plan was cut short by a computer virus and a reformat, so we have to get them all again.

Flandre and Remilia Scarlet both have places in our hearts. However, Yukari Yakumo has quickly moved in with them.

Yes, the games are hard. In fact, they are some of the hardest games we've ever played. If you're expecting to start one up and beat it without a game over (even on easy), you're sadly mistaken.

EDIT: Also, the series has some of the greatest fan art imaginable.

Huge fan of the series and have played everything from Touhou 1 - 12 + the fighters.

Must say I can't really say I have a favorite character since I like and adore mostly every single one of them.
Thou Fujiwara no Mokou and Keine Kamishirasawa are on the top looking down on the likes of Satori Komeiji and Byakuren Hijiri. <3

I got drawn to Touhou through the several gajillion arranges of the diffrent themes and there are several youtubers dedicated to upload theese wonderful pieces onto youtube. Also the amount of touhou meme's are astonishing aswell XD

Touhou 12.5 - Double Spoiler launched!

It's a sequel to Shoot the Bullet, with similar gameplay, but with a few differences. I think there's another playable character too :3 but I'm not sure.
