So let's say that Final Fantasy VI is being remade or the PS3 or the Wii.

While most of us would be thrilled, we all know that Square Enix could potentially screw it up...

So pros and cons

Pros
1. The game would be in 3D and we would get to see the characters look more realistic
2. Some of the FMVs would be awesome, specifically the "World Ending" one.
3. The music would not sound so 16 bit
4. Some things could be elaborated on, specifically Kefka

Cons
1. This game would most likely have voice actors... and if they are any thing like FFX, FFXII, or AC well...
2. Unnecessary things could be added. I don't want to see hours and hours of angsting because it appeals to little fangirls.
3. Making the characters appear more attractive than they are. Kefka is a creepy clown, Cyan is 50 years old, Relm is a little girl, Gau was raised in the woods, and Stratego is an old man. Don't make they look hot. Setzer also better not look the way he does in Kingdom Hearts II.
4. They BETTER keep the world map and controllable air ship.

I don't think they would change any main parts of the game like in #4. But #3 is absolutely right they most likely do that. I think I would play it anyways coz I've never played FFVI in the first place so I don't really know how well I can comment on this. But SE does tend to screw everything up when they re-make things.

Pros

More people would play the game, and FFVI would get the recognition it deserves.
The stunning music - sound quality would be improved tenfold.
Larger disk space, so they could expand the story more.
The opera scene. It would become legendary.

Cons

VA, they'll either be perfect, or shit.
The opera scene. It'll either be orgasmic, or terrible and ruined.
Expanding on the storyline could change the game for the worse.

Quite a lot of the early one's would be good remade...if they're done properly.

Yes, the Opera scene would be amazing if they got it done right, as would the end of the world. Its probably right that they'd try and make them look "prettier", but you never know with SE, they sometimes do something a little different than their norm.

They wouldn't expand the storyline, or its not likely at best. Improved graphics is always a bonus in my eyes, even if the voice acting is...poor...

And I know how poor Setzer was in KH2, I didn't actually realise who it was!

The thing is, FFVI is about 15-20 hours long, which isn't very long when compared to the later FFs, so they'd be compeled to add more things in, if only to squeeze another 10-20 hours of gameplay and story out of it.

I suppose its possible, but I imagine they might just make it optional. Stuff to find out about certain character's pasts and things like that. Could be done really well, but I doubt they would. They always seem to find new ways of disappointing me even though I usually support them a lot :P

Pros:
-Idea for remake is good but I really don´t see good reason for a remake, GBA version is all we need, okay sound quality must be better than in GBA version, otherwise there is no need for remake.

Cons:
-SE will probably screw things up and just game to appeal new players and ignoring old fans.
-Who could be good enough voice actor for Kefka, translation might be also worse. I already hated in Advance-version how they changed "son of a submariner".

Like I said no need for remake but they should make game bleak as VI and VII. VIII-onwards FF-games has been too bright. Darker tone.

I'm not sure I want some of the songs to be changed though, especially Dancing Mad. Part of what makes that song so win is the 16-bit, synthesized feel to it. Plus, knowing SE they'd throw some faggy Latin chants into the song. Although I wouldn't mind hearing a revamped Terra, that song was awesome to begin with and fully orchestrated it could be incredible.

I thought the voice acting in XII was pretty good, it was a huge improvement over X and AC. I think SE is slowly learning to pick better VAs.

Characters might or might not get the Nomura curse. In IV's remake they've been faithful to Amano's design...but in other games like Dissidia Nomura hs to get his grubby little otaku hands on the characters...so I dunno.

And you know they won't keep the airship and world map. SE thinks world maps and airships are bad, just like turn-based combat.

I must be one of the only people in the world who has no hatred for the real-time battle, the lack of world map and the voice acting in the games/spin-off's, though that's for another thread.

I don't believe I've ever made it to the end of VI before but I do have a general comment concerning a remake. I, for one, wouldn't be too worried with what they'd produce, or 'ruin.' At the end of the day, you've still got the original sitting on your shelf, just waiting to restore your love for it. With that in mind, I really don't see any con's.

I would love to see this one in 3D. and I would say I'm a bit curious on what each characters would sound like. the Kefka Cosplayer would make a great voice for the actual Kefka character.

My only real thing I'm not to sure how they would do the mapping considering all the hidden passageways behind buildings and through walls.

They would probably have to redesign quite a lot of things, which could be good-they wouldn't be limited to two dimentions.

The areas could also use some differentiation. I mean, most of the towns only use one tile set and only the fans in Figaro makes it different than Doma... and that is bad.

Hm...To tie in with the towns, because of all the new people and opinions, sidequests could be added in that way, for summons, characters, and items that are common in the FF realm that hadn't been in that game.

this is exactly why they should make it for the DS or PSP. a full blown 3D remake on anything else wouldn't seem right. Besides, they wouldn't be able to use Kefka infamous laff!

well in my opinion remakes of the old games are somewhat of a hollow victory. yes you get to play your old game with up'ed graphics and sounds and on your newer systems but then again your playing the same games with a slight twist and your paying the same amount of money. while i am guilty of buying the new FF3 and FF4 i think that square enix should spend their time and our money making new and exciting games...they dont nessacarly be FF etheir.

If be great if they (assuming this ever happens) added to the story, weapons, espers and such. Id be great if this whent down, but most likely wont happen. Fun to dream though.

Even THINKING about a Wii or PS3 remake is ridiculous...it'd just take too much to do. Just too much time & resources...A DS remake would be great, though. Matrix Software's already proven themselves by doing great w/FFIII DS & FFIV DS (in Japan so far anyways)...

But, yeah better FMVs than the Anthologies ones would be nice...and MORE of them, maybe...better than MIDI quality sound & music would be cool too though...and, hey! A new dimension adds new fun! Hooray!

I'll be REALLY surprised if they don't eventually make FFVI DS...and then Chrono Trigger DS...and then THE WORLD!! MWAH HAHA!!!

But seriously, what does Square take me for? A waiter?!?

Personally, I think a remake should be left to PSP. Or at least Wii.

PSP:

Pros:
Handheld
Not Overdoing Graphics
Less likely to have voice acting, therefor, less likely to be crappy voicacting.

Cons:
Lack of voicacting altogether or higher quality means no awesome 16 bit Kefka laugh. D:
Screen is more wide on PSP. I'm used to seeing it on a more Square screen. >.>

Wii:

Pros:
Just thinking of how awesome 2D could be on the wii makes me poop myself.
The 2.5d vehicles could be awesome, and it could be accompanied with a nice control scheme.
Obvious stuff like sound.

Cons:
Square could get too adventurous.
No 16-bit-Kefka-Laugh(C).

Personally, after FFIV's story buff the next remake I'd like to see is *Le gasp* another FF1 in full 3d with a few extra classes and very minor characters based on the class. Not to mention the dungeons from GBA and PSP versions with a few more to reflect... FF7-10, and maybe 11 and twelve. I wish GBA version had that. I'd love to see Jenova, or Necron in 2d. :neomon:
