The Great Crystal, Omega.. Etc..

Alright I wanted to open this thread because I'm confused beyond a reasonable doubt. Everything about this place is pushing my buttons.

Okay first off.. I've tried to either get the Stone Blade (2nd best 1 handed sword in the game), Excalliber, or Zodiak Escutchen. So far I've came up with a Mirage Vest and a nice Pole of some kind.. Don't remember.

1) Mirage Vest was from the chest surrounded by horses with blades on their heads. (without Diamond Armlet)

2) The Pole came from a chest surrounded by Ghoulish things (without Diamond Armlet)

3) I've opened a treasure box about 15+ times without a Diamond Armlet on that has a Dinosaur of some kind next to it, it keeps giving me gil or a knot of rust - I've tried 4 times or so with a diamond armlet on and it gave even more gil.

This place is a maze, that which you either have to memorise, or.... write yourself a self made map. There are no answers to map questions online nor in the Brady Games book, there are only Directions (that which are as good as mapquest) to Ultima and Omega Mark.

I have already beat the game, so you know where I stand with all my spells. I have them all, plus have all 13 espers, plus... have killed 44 Marks (not the last one, dunno how to start him from Mont Blanc, maybe I don't have to?)

So now here are the questions -

1) Where has Zodiak Escutchen dropped for you all? What monsters was it surrounded by would be the best hint.

2) Where has the Excalliber dropped for you all? What monsters was it surrounded by would be the best hint.

3) Lastly I've currently set up my route to Omega Mark, but when I got to him, he just sat there - I went up to him expecting him to lay into me, but he's just sitting there, I ran circles around him even hoping an " ! " would show up, but nothing. .. do I need to start a quest to make him activate? Brady Games guide has no answers concerning this.. not to mention it's falling apart.

Alright well I found some good news.. I will post a map of the Great Crystal in a sec.

Now all I'm wondering is how I activate the Omega Mark.

1. Follow the link (Thanks for the great map) and it’s the “T” straight down
to the Map 2 word (100% confirmed).
2. It is in the middle of a trap treasure chest. But before that you have to
face 3 Shadnir (Horse like monster) One is guarding the trap treasure and two
more will join in as soon as you step in the central area.
3. To increase of your chance to get the Excalibur equip your leader with
Diamond Armlet.
4. In case you if u didn’t get it on your first try from the treasure chest
try back track 3 screen (not 2 screens like the monster to reappear and
remember you don’t have to go all the way to the save point which is quite
far) and the chest will reappear.
5. Keep getting the chest until you get the Excalibur. Also remember you
cannot get more than one Excalibur even you try to reload or restart like the
other treasure.
6. You cannot get it on you first visit through story mode and of course you
*can* get it before getting *Ultima Esper*.

I'm not as far as you yet, I have to get Zodiark, Ultima & still have to do the last mark, the one I've heard so much about.. in the arena.. whats his name... Anyway, the map is awesome, I hated that area, the only other time I was in that area so far was to get the mark by the crystal, so I wasn't lloking forward to going and getting Ultima, but with the map!!... I'm sure will be a great help..

Good news the instructions paid off, I was able to receive a Sage Ring + Exacalliber and hit 99 with all three of my mains in the process, now to get the heck out of that place.

If not, I found out you have to kill the Earth Wyrmm??? the one in the Sochen Palace cave? first ..to activate Omega.

Yeppers, I took him out shortly afterwards. Omega was extremely easy for some reason, I guess if you just follow the strategy in Brady Games book, it is a breeze.

Chisu, when you got Excalibur, did the chest for it appear after you opened the chest surrounded by those horses?

I've heard two versions. 1. It's in the chest with the trap around it. 2. When you trip the chest with the trap around it, another chest appears and that has Excalibur in it.

I want this damn sword so bad it's killing me.
