I have been thinking lately, where do you think the FF series will go after this? and by "this" I mean XIII. Do you think the XIII's will mark the end of the FF series or do you think it will keep going and maybe create some kind of spin-off series to put the spotlight on the characters that didn't really get alot of it. I know many would like to see a FF VII-Remake for the PS3. The way I see it that seems more likely than anything after XIII. To put it another way a remake of VII is more likely than a FF XIV. But thats just what I think. I want to hear opinions here. I have a poll but I want people to post AND vote on the poll. So you vote on the poll then you elaborate in a post.

Discuss Away.

I see the final fantasy series continuing due to the fan base is as strong as ever and no big evil company would stop a series the they can make a lot of money on. Though the future does change things, I would eat my hat if the didn’t make a FFXIV, and I also doubt the chances of a FFVII remake on the PS3 (maybe the PS4 though)

I can see the game still continuing into the foreseeable future, like what Jonny mentioned... The fanbase is indeed still strong and loyal to the game, so why end a good thing just like that?

As for remakes, I'd like to see Final Fantasy X remade into a full-fledged CGI movie, in the mould of FF: The Spirits Within... The movie can be set in the time when Yuna was still a toddler and centered on ppl like Auron, Jecht, and Lord Braska doing their stuff against Sin...

I've said before that I'd expect the series to go onto at least FFXX; after that, we'll see -_-

Obviously, it's likely that all FF games will be simply reformatted for different systems, probably just fix some translation issues in the script, and most likely confined to being reformatted to hand held systems.

But it should be a while longer before some games are totally remade. I doubt they'll remake the PS1 FF games (7, 8, and 9) for the PS3, but maybe they'll be remade for a future PSP version, or even future PS consoles. The graphics for those games were pretty decent; you'd have to change the whole game into some sort of constant CGI format to be remade graphically better o_O

I just sincerely hope the future FF remakes won't change much aside from graphics and maybe voice acting; changing an aspect to the story or characters would disappoint me >_<

Maybe the FF series will stray from home consoles like the Dragon Quest series is about to do...? >_>

I highly doubt we'll see the end of the series in our lifetime even (yeah, even you 13-year-olds)...Unless they happen to lose a FUCKTON of money again like Spirits Within did...which is next to impossible now thanks to 1) the merger & 2) Japan's addiction to Dragon Quests...not to mention SE's plain RPG success across the board. It'd be like saying, "When's Capcom going to give up on Street Fighter & Mega Man games already?" or, "Nintendo's done a lot of Mario & Pokémon, I bet that well will dry up soon!"...It's just...not gonna happen.

If Super Mario can continue its run as the world's no. 1 game franchise, why can't our beloved Final Fantasy do the same (who are still stuck at No. 4, btw)?

Square Enix will surely continue to produce more FF games if the money is still coming in... And like what Translanka said, they will only give up if subsequent games cause SE to suffer HUGE losses like Spirits Within...

Back in Feb 2000, SE bought the following web domains:

FF12.com
FF13.com
FF14.com
FF15.com

and FF16.com was bought by a fan in mid feb of that year. Seems like 8 years ago, they foresaw making final fantasies for a while. Don't know if that plan has changed much since then, but looking at where SE was then and where SE is now I think the answer is clear. SE is profiting more now than then and is a much larger company. There should most definitely be more final fantasies to come.

*for now i dont really see any end to final fantasy franchise and its out of our hands, besides they did a good job of making it sooo good since final fantasy 1, lets just leave it to the brilliant team of square.

*but honestly i would like to see final fantasy grow even more, as far as the fanchise will continue, i predict maybe a final fantasy 50 or something hehe if we live that long :XD:

*oh well, come what may, final fantasy is here to stay...unless a horrible disaster comes to all square enix staff and ends the final fantasy trail :D peace weeeee :D :D hahaha :D

The series is as popular and succesfull as it has ever been. I dont see why square enix would feel the need to end it at all. People 10 years ago would be shocked to find out it is still going on now, i think it will continue for many many years to come.

Well realistically its a gaming franchise so its going to keep pumping them out until people no longer buy them... coz its all about the profit.
Actually that is probably a little bit harsh but i kinda reckon its true... The games are starting to become all about drowning the gamer in action and scenes that can be put into adverts, when it used to be about having well woven plots, great music and the 'little guys' trying to make a difference in life, the likes of Zidane/cloud etc fighting a greater evil.
Everyone talks about whether or not there will be another game like FFVII, which is unlikely because that style of game has become dated, although i would love for a remake to be made. It seems as the titles have progressed the characters have become less and less important- the games are spectacular visually but i no longer see myself wanting to replay a game to re-live their experiences, hardships and victories. Ive played FFVII literally dozens of times through, IX maybe 6-7 times, X (and X-2) 3-4 and XII once.... and unless XIII is spectacular i dont see myself playin that more than once. For me, the franchise is dying, but im hugely critical.... :( id like to see more, because Square are doing a good job, theyre just not makin exactly wat id like to see in a game.

Good thread, if this turns into a good debate ill comment further.

That is a brilliant idea, i would love too see more movies of more FF like VIII and IX, not XII tough, Ivalice has already too much games too appear in. Maybe a kingdom hearts movie... I know the chances of all that are low but man I would buy them all.

Valmelthos, you have a strong point after XII I hope XIII will blow me away again like the others before XII did. Before, each character had a whole history to discover, some part of the story, some in extra side story but it all focused on characters changing together trough their journey.

I'm really expecting a lot from XIII. But i think it would be great if they remade VII, VIII and IX, that would also keep me hooked a couple of years more. But then again if they would only remake the old ones we wouldn't have something new to look forward too. So I'm really in doubt what will happen next, please let XIII be great, please Square,...

Without a doubt they'll stop somewhere but I can't see it happening in the near future, they will most likely produce many spinoffs during the 10 year FFXIII compilation but as long as new consoles are coming out they'll most likely continue the series. All being said, Square Enix do have a lot of other very good series they could fall back on if they could get the popularity of them to rise.

i think if they remake all the old games people that think there boring (I know ive got a load in my school) will see why so many people are fans then when the new ones come out they will buy them!!!!!!1 the only thing i dont like about the new ones is when people play them and dont pay attention to there storyline then think there an expert on it!!! and then think its the best one of the series.

i think most final fantasy fans would agree that any of the ffs between 7 and 9 are the best..

Well Oliver, lets hope for the best then... Previews of XIII via Youtube look promising, hopefully the end product will also be as great!

yup they really do, I hope for an amazing battle system, mindblowing storyline, plot twists, deep characters and an amazing use of the summons, anything I forgot?

I think 7 is the best but I would put 6 and 10 above 8 and 9.

As far as XIII goes...I've been avoiding anything about it like the plague. Not because I am not iterested in it, I am and I will get it as soon as it is released, but I just don't want to have anything about the game spoiled.
