For a long time, many of us Final Fantasy fiends have stuck to either Nintendo or Sony for our RPG (and FF) needs. Recently, or not recently (depending on what your definition of recently is), it was announced that FFXIII would be available for Ps3 and Xbox360 (not the Wii). For a while, that made me mad. I don't know why. I just had this strange sense that my privacy had been invaded.

They are making a Final Fantasy for Xbox? Of course, that's a somewhat strange statement. FFXI is a game in the series that has been available on the Xbox systems.

Thinking back a little, however, Final Fantasy VII and VIII were also available on the PC at one point (same with XI). VII and VIII boasted better graphics while VIII also included the "Chocobo's World" mini-game.

This situation is somewhat different to most veteran players.
1) Most people have a PC.
2) A lot of people usually only purchase either the Xbox360, or the Playstation 3.
3) Ps had been very appealing since it also had many RPGs, which a good deal of Final Fantasy players enjoy (FF is an Rpg, duh, right?). But now...Xbox360 has plenty of more Rpgs than Ps3.
4) FF Crystal Chronicles are looked at differently when looking at the FF Series.
5) FFXI is an MMORPG.

How does the future of Final Fantasy look?

What do you want to happen in the future of Final Fantasy?

Will the series meet an end in our life-time?

If you have any other questions that I haven't specifically displayed, feel free to post them below.

This is just some thoughts and curious questions of mine. I'd love to hear what some of you think.

The Final Fantasy series is not going to end as long as people are buying game consoles to play them on, in this case Squeenix opting to expand into the 360 market with Blue Dragon etc. and more controversially with FF XIII. This obviously shows that they are more interested in financial returns than the fans. If you look at Konami's MGS4, which has stayed true to its fans and stayed as an exclusive on the PS3 (It could have been ported). Also looking at increasingly bad design in FFs >X, XII had samey looking bad character designs, FF XIII looks to carry on the same generic/animu/emu theme. Also aiming at the more casual gamer. However we still might see a further evolution to the series or even a step back.
Remember FF IX? And how it tried to recreate the old FF 'feel' after the cyperpunk stuff in VII and general faggotry in VIII.

Mm. I see what you're getting at. It makes me somewhat sad. Final Fantasy was my gateway into video gaming in the first place. Being a traditionalist RPG gamer makes me compare all final fantasy games to its predecessors.

lol. I couldn't let this go, you cracked me up. The "emu" theme. I know they'll probably have chocobo's in it, but emu's too?!

Anyway I agree the emo look is the way the franchise is going right now, and I don't like it.

I would like them to go back a bit to their roots. Brain storm. Look at their classic era and see how it was realy good, and go back to some elements. Sure, I'm up for experimentation. FF7 and FF8 realy worked, and they still felt very Final Fantasy, and held many of the FF elements... Those elements began to dissapear. While FFX held onto the character and story elements, it lacked in gameplay, and world map features etc...

And the franchise has been a run-away train ever since in my opinion. De-railed... But some new fans have jumped in that train, encouraging it to roll on.
Personally I want that train to darn well hop back onto the tracks!

De-railed. Especially on the FFVII compliation. Man. I really wish they spent more time on the STORY! I still cried at the end of Crisis Core though. Man...bring back some of the old stuff eh?

Of course, I'd also like to see some Chrono games...but Cross was kind of harshly received...ah. Man.
