The Black Coast

Introduction

“Sir, they are coming over the hill now!” Achilion said, a well built warrior, 6ft tall, muscular and strong with long brown hair and a handsome face. He was wearing the uniform and armour of a proud and strong country. “How many” Felgon said, A tall muscular man with a battle scared face and unbreakable courage .A commander in the Army of Azar, the country that lies just north of the Black Coast. “300 strong sir, they are heading this way” Achilion said trembling. Felgon sighed, “It is just as the wizard predicted” His voice sounded shaken but there was no sign of fear on his body. “Achilion” Said Felgon, “Round up the troops, these foe will not live to see the night”.
The barracks where ripe with movement and urgency, soldiers rushing to get to their posts, guards gearing up to get ready for battle, Felgon already knew the outcome of the battle, for if the wizard predicted this, his other prediction would come true, his other prophesy was the fall of the Black Coast. But regardless of the worries in his head Felgon stayed strong and suited up ready for war, brandishing his awesome powerful magical rune sword Agentil, the sword used to slay the dark wizards council over 200 years ago. He looked at his men, he saw fear in their eyes. As a Commander he thought they would have a better chance of beating back the foe if morale was really high, so he stood in front of them bravely and boomed out his dark powerful voice. “Men, my honourable warriors and guardsmen of the proud country Azar, I see so much fear in this place, the look on your faces, the darkness in your eyes. Do not fear battle, for we are gods in battle, we are glorious warriors of the King, this day we mach out to battle, for many of you this will be your first. But do not fear, for there is a much stronger weapon among us than any sword or bow, in your heart lays the fires of freedom, of good will, of mankind. Those fires will burn brightly now, more so than they ever had. So my men, have no fear, rise up with me, we are strong, we are great, we are powerful, we are the keepers of freedom, let us fight for freedom, let us fight for peace, let us fight for our country, rise with me, my fellow comrades, today we will fight, and we will win!!!” A roar of excitement and emotion sounded from the crowd, so awe inspiring and powerful that many had tears in their eyes. “Let us march now! TO WAR!” As soon as Felgon finished his speech, he mounted his horse and the army set off to meet the unknown foe.
The Army stopped on the hill top, they could see the sea of foes coming towards them, Achilion squinted and looked out to see what their foes where. “They’re Lizardmen! What are lizard men doing so far south of their home?” Achilion was puzzled, but no time for confusion. Felgon knew if they were to hold them back then would have to charge them head on. Lizardmen have been known to flee battles in fear from a head on charge. He knew the time was now, Felgon drew his sword, raised it in the air and shouted “For the king, for Azar and for FREEDOM! CHARGE!” The army sped towards their foe, running with pride and hostility, as they got closer to the Lizardmen the sky was darken by hundreds of Lizardmen arrows, Felgon watched as his soldiers where cut down by these arrows. Then, with a thundering crash, the two armies clashed in sword combat, Achilion shielded a blow from a Lizardmen swords man then bought his axe down upon its head, cutting it in half letting black blood fly everywhere, he dodged a axe that almost sliced his shoulder off, turned and saw the Lizardmen chief standing tall in front of him. Achilion raised his shield to block his second attack, his shield sparked as the mighty chief bought his axe down on it. Achilion saw an opportunity so sever the chiefs arm at the elbow, he swung his axe but the lizardman was too fast, the chief kicked him down on the floor, standing on his chest, then smiled evilly, Just before he bought the axe down an arrow flew into the back of the chiefs head and a horn of war sounded, not a horn of Azar, but a horn of Medelion, A country populated by elves. The lizard men turned to see the elven warriors charge at them with great speed, they knew that they couldn’t win with Azar’s army and Medelion’s army fighting them. The Lizardmen army fled back over the hills and disappeared as quickly as they came.

Felgon rode back to his camp with the elven commander, puzzled of how they knew of the battle. “I am deeply grateful for your assistance, Liethin, but how did you know about the battle?” Liethin was a slim slender kind elf who was skilled in the arts of war and magic, he had long black hair, pointed small ears, deep blue eyes and a thin face. “Do you forget, Felgon? We elves see everything, our scouts are everywhere. But that is the trouble, our scouts have seen strange…. Phenomenon’s occurring, the elven scouts speak of Orc tribes roaming the lands, Dark knights gathering at Aliethion, the country of the corrupt kings, and their last report disturbs me more than that. In the moonlight of night, our elven scouts have reported the dead rising!” Liethin looked at Felgon with a stern look “I fear that this is the work of the last remaining dark wizard, the descendant of the dark wizard that fled the council before its demise over 200 years ago.” Felgon looked at Liethin puzzled, he too had also heard this information from the high wizard in Azar.
They arrived back at the camp, this victory was great for Azar. There was a great feast of salted beef, bread, leek and potato stew, with fine ale and wine. Felgon knew the gods had smiled upon him today. Achilion walked up to Felgon and smiled, “Does this mean the land is safe sir?” Felgon looked at him with a stern look and said in a quite voice “Far from safe, my friend. We are in grave danger. Not just us, but the other countries of the black coast. Tomorrow, I need you and a handful of our finest men to ride back to Azar’s capitol Hakgrad to speak with the King and his high wizards. There is evil about, I have heard it from Liethin himself. But do not fear, I need you to stay strong for me, old friend.” Achilion stood tall and proud. “My commander, my lord, my good friend Felgon, for you, for my wife and for Azar, I will stay strong and cut down any in my way.” Felgon could see that the battle had changed Achilion, it seemed as if he was no longer afraid of death. “Good, my wise Sergeant, please, get some rest, you have a long day ahead of you tomorrow.” Achilion smiled. “No problem, see you tomorrow.” He turned and headed back to his tent.

Liethin arrived back at Medelion in the early hours of the morning, he was very worried, and he could tell something bad was going to happen. The humans are the only ones wise enough to stand with them, those stuck up little dwarfs wouldn’t do anything to help them, he thought to himself. As he rode over the last hill to the capitol city Meddon the moon shone brightly over it, causing it to glow like some kind of holy shrine. Liethin always liked the view on that hill, but it was much more beautiful now than it had ever been. He headed into the city, stabled his horse and sent his soldiers back to their barracks. He then headed for the Great Temple of Aurithin, the burial ground of the first elf king and the home of king Medil, a wise and good king of the elves. As he walked into the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Temple Gates the high guards of the King where stood in their protective line, 10 of the strongest, most powerful elven warriors, the guard of the King has been known to beat of entire small armies of orcs and dark knights before.
“Aaah, greetings brother Liethin, you may pass” the leader of the guard said with pride, for 60 years ago Liethin was the leader of the guard, and then he quit the guard for personal reasons. His love for the elven princess Harriet left him no choice but to quit. He arrived at the kings thrown room and bowed his head. “Greetings, brother Liethin, how was the battle?” The king asked him “The battle was a complete success my lord, but before we could get there many Lizardmen where slain by the Army of Azar under the command of Felgon.” Liethin said softly. “Aaah, yes, our great allies from the north, how fairs Felgon these days, it is long since I have seen him” the King said. “He is well my lord, but earlier this year his family was slaughtered by rampaging Orcs in the Azar highlands. A tragic story.” Liethin replied. “Yes, a sad story indeed. But we must focus on the troubles at hand, my good friend. Tomorrow, Felgon will send a warrior by the name of Achilion to the city of Hakgrad, our scouts over heard them talking after you left. I want you to take Lemas and Farnim and accompany our Azar friends to Hakgrad. I fear there is a dark force at work that will try and slay them this day.” Liethin knew he was talking about the last Dark Wizard. “As you wish, my lord.” Liethin turned to leave but the king stopped him. “If you would be so kind to see Harriet, she is worried about you and would like to see you before you depart.” Liethin nodded “Of course, my lord.” He hesitated slightly then walked out of the room.
He visited Harriet’s chamber room and knocked on the door. “Who is it” a young, husky, sexy voice sounded from behind the door. “It’s Liethin,” He replied softly. She opened the door and gazed into his eyes, her eyes filled up with tears and she ran into his arms. “Oh my beloved, I thought you had parted for the next realm, my father was worried that you were dead.” Harriet said, crying into his chest. Harriet was a young elf woman who was very beautiful, she had long golden hair, a slender figure with medium breasts and the face of an angel. “No, my love, I am still here. But I have to leave you once again.” Liethin replied. “I know” she said sadly, “I know you have to go to Azar. But take this, you forgot it last time” She took his hand and placed their wedding ring into it. “I will always be with you so long as you have this” She said emotionally. Liethin placed his hands on her cheeks lightly, gazing into her eyes deeply, and then kissed her passionately and tenderly. He pulled away and looked at her “I must go now, my love, but I will be back, I promise” He bowed to her and turned then left, she ran to her bed and cried her eyes out wondering why it had to be him, but regardless he carried on with his mission.
