The death penalty does have one huge advantage: it would help deter crime like that by saying "hey, you do this kinda crap and you're gonna die."

Not to mention the whole justice system is messed up. People commit crimes and they get thrown in prison. Wow. That's such a punishment. So they may be forced to toss someone's salad, big deal. They get free food, free TV, and free health care. That's not much incentive to stay away from crime.

IMO, we should go back to things like public executions and dungeons. That may sound barbaric, but think about it for a sec. With public executions, both upstanding citizens and would-be criminals will get to see first hand what happens if you break the law, that would be a pretty big deterrent. With dungeons, the thought of hanging from a wall in shackles with rats gnawing at your emaciated body is much more unsettling than having a bed and TV and whatever medicine you need.

It might not be nice and sweet and humane, but these are criminals we're dealing with, and it would see a huge decrease in crime. And then our jails and prisons could just be used for lesser criminals, like ones who have stolen out of survival or did a bit of drunk driving.

I agree with you 100%...criminals go into jail where they get a lot of free services and it´s us who pay for their survival.

If there where indeed executions and solitary confinement for high crime penalties then the crime rate would decrease a lot.

In a case like these one for example those guys deserve no less than torture and death.

Jails are an enormous waste of taxpayer money. While that money could be going to ghettos to combat poverty and crime, instead it goes to overcrowded prison to give criminals decent meals, free health care, buy TVs for their cells, buy mattresses for their beds, etc.

I would have to disagree with you on the torture bit, though. Much as a part of me would love to see people like those kids tortured....if you do that then you're no better than they are. Besides, being in shackles, being fed gruel, and knowing that you're going to die in front of hundreds of people (or millions, if you publicize the event on TV) is enough torment in itself.

They may not live much of a life after the experience but hopefully after time wounds heal, and those idiots can get the real punishment they deserve.

What really bugs me is that over here once you turn 16, even if you have half a dozen assault charges, your file gets wiped!! Pathetic what people get away with.. The mother may recover, but i have serious doubts that poor boy will recover...and if he does, it'll be a long, uphill battle.

I justr ead it and I have a few things to say.

Firstly,

We must take into consideration whether this Nathan kid was involved. While he may have been (and believe me, if he was I'd like nothing more than to see him imprisoned for life), he also may not have been.

Taking that into consideration, I will not judge yet.

Secondly,

I must say that, I want that Nathan, if involved, to be hung up on meat hooks by his skin. That being said, I would not allow it to happen. I'm of the opinion that, though these people need punishment, it is not our right to seek vengeance. Punishment and protection is one thing, going after them because of what they did is another.

I want them put away, because it would keep families safe. I don't want them dead, that would be taking it to the extreme. I want them in prison because it brings security to our lives.

I do not advocate them being imprisoned because of what they did (though, if looking at it from my point of view...they wouldn't last a day if I were on the hunt). While I would want them to be imprisoned because of this, it doesn't make it the right reason to want them imprisoned.

I love how you put that Triogal. No offense intended, this is just my personal opinion, but this is why I wish I was not human. The fact that humans believe 'an eye for an eye' is justified, that makes me sick. Humanity focuses on vengeance and corruption, not love and protection (totally corny-sounding, I know), and so I believe that the world would be better off without humanity.

Personally, I agree with your sentiments. However, objectively, it may not be the right thing to do.
