So i'm 19, been wanting a tattoo pretty badly but i've been putting it off forever, and i'm starting to get urges to run out and get one again. BUT i want to make sure that if i get one it's gonna be damn cool.

I've decided that it will be on either my right or left deltoid (http://www.polands-syndrome.com/media/deltoid.jpg), that way i can cover or show it as needed. I want the design to be simple so that when i get older and it starts to fade it wont be obscure and i wont have guessing contests in a nursing home about what it is. These are the designs i've thought of so far.

The ankh:

The Eye of Horus:

I've seen designs of them combined too...might try something like that.

Also, the only other thing that came to mind was that pendant on Tidus's necklace, but i have no idea what that thing is called.

So um...anyone got any ideas or suggestions? And if i put this in the wrong thread, gomen. Wasnt quite sure where to put it.

Best bet; pick something meaningful or unique. You don't even have to come up with a rigid, solidly predetermined design. I wouldn't just flip through the shop's booklet of designs and say "I'll take tattoo number 240A." Those are just there for examples, to get the creative ideas flowing. And to kind of get a picture of how the artist might draw this or that, like if you wanted something for wings for example. You can see how this guy's angel or bat wings might typically come out and decide from there.

The guy my roommate goes to for all of his tattoos seems to love creativity. My roommate will go in with a basic notion of what he wants and they'll sit there and brainstorm together for a minute or two and he'll even ofter suggestions. His last tattoo was of a guitar since he plays the bass, and he wanted angel wings coming from the back of it and the artist suggested frayed feathers at the ends of it with a bit of bone sticking out like the wings got all fucked up and shit, so he went with it and came up with a few more ideas to add in along that theme. Seems that the tattoo artists like that, or at least this guy does, to be able to help the customer come up with the creation of it and then draw the bastard out.

So I'd suggest if you're itching for something, print out those two pictures and bring them into a shop. Talk to the artist there and see what he has to say, take a look at some of his work, and if you like what you see and hear then go from there.

Don't get a pre-existing image permanently tattooed on your body. Try making an original one. o.0

Don't do anything that will blatantly harm your reputation in the work world unless you can hide it. You may regret getting a hideous mark on your arms or legs.

I'll tryyy for an original one...hopefully whatever tattoo artist i pick is creative enough to visualize what i try to explain.

And thats why if i get one, it'll be on my deltoid, then even a short sleeve shirt will cover it up. No giant skulls on my forearm or tattoos on my neck.

Good advice when it comes to tattoos: sleep on the idea.

Then again, this thread is pretty old. Maybe you've gone through with it already.

Pick something meaningful you won't regret as you get older. I had a tribal band around the top of my wrist with all my familys names and underneath I have another tribal band with their role in my family
