summons

Well they are called espers and you get your first one from tomb of raithwall. Then you get more as the story progress or others by doing sidequests
 
Belias - Raithwalls Tomb
Mateus - Stilshrine of Miriam
Famfrit - Dr. Cid (2nd battle)
Shemhazai - Giruvegan - not long after you faced Tyrant
Hashmal - In the Pharos

Adrammalech - Zertinan Caverns
Cuchulainn - Garamscythe waterway
Zodiark - Henne Mines
Ultima - Great Crystal

I can't remember the rest, but there are sidequests/things you must do first before getting secret ones.
 
Do the main quest and you will get some. Others are on side quests. Give it time, you cant get the espers straight away.
 
That's higher than you should be to fight ultima. What weapons have you got because i beat ultima on my first try and i was lv 65 for my main 3 and lv 13 for the other 3 ^_^
 
You get 5 espers when you play the story forward.

You can find 8 hidden espers:

-Adrammelech in Zertinan caverns (easy to find)
-Zalera in Barheim Bassage (you need to do a side quest in Estersand to get the key in)
-Cuchulainn in Caramsythe Gateway (you get the sluicegate key after completing White Mousse hunt)
-Exodus in Mosphoran highwaste (small "side quest" to do)
-Zeromus in Stillshrine of Miriam (after defeating Judge Bergan you can get a Stone of the Condemner from Acolyte)
-Chaos in Necrohol of Nabudis (after long side quest)
-Ultima in the Great Crystal of Giruvegan (get the map from somehow from internet)
-Zodiark in Henne mines (after getting right amount of espers)

The easiest way to get them is to get a guide from net.
