I recently purchased this one as I loved the first 2 games. But sadly its falling into the ranks of the last 2 games which were IMO AWFUL! Its sad as the first 2 were brilliant games and the rest havent lived up to expectations. I sadly never got to play 3, so I cant judge.

I have to vent my anger and the only people who understand our my fellow gamers! So here is my rant!

Things which have annoyed me:

* Lead characters voice acting is terrible. He rushes through dialogue and must be a first timer to voice acting. Its hard to make out what he says sometimes.

* Speed of the character on screen is slow! He takes awhile to get moving which can be annoying, specially when you need to find a save point ASAP.

* Battle, I believe, are to frequent. Its like every 4 steps you run into a battle. Now for a character running fast it isnt a problem, but for a slow moving character like this one its a damn pain in the arse.

* Towns just arent towns anymore. You select a location from a list and go there. It doesnt have a true map feel to it like the rest do. Its "Select Inn" or "Shop." It just feels abit rushed.

Maybe this whole game was a rush I dont know. All I can say is, it hasnt fulfilled my Suikoden needs. As I mentioned before, the first 2 were great and the rest havent lived up to a fan's standard.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I've not got the game and personally, from what I have seen of it, I don't think I will.

I absolutely adore Suikoden I, II and V. III was ok but IV was just awful. Tactics was pretty cool. I badly wanted them to go back to Suikoden II's way of things. That story was just sensational. But from what I've seen of Tierkreis, it just doesn't live up to the older games in the series.

The main character to me looks... well, like a complete douche. Past main characters have all been unique in their own ways.

I agree, this game feels rushed and I say that without having played it. It just seems like they thought "Oh it's been a while, let's make a game for the DS and just cram shit together and hope they don't notice just how lacking it really is"

It should be made for the PSP really. >_> Suikoden VI needs to be awesome. I'm not sure if Tierkreis is meant to be the VI'th game. I'm thinking not seeing as it's not on the PS consoles.

Regardless.

Tierkreis is a stain on this awesome series (even more so than IV) and I won't be purchasing it.

I miss the features of 2, it was an incredible game. I did hear that 1 and 2 are being put onto the psp, but may not get a release outside of Japan, which is a shame as they are IMO 2 of the best RPGs going. The politcs of 2 and the friendship struggle was brilliant and you felt for the characters. You dont get great games like that often and this one is a big waste.

the last 2 games [...] were IMO AWFUL!

Suikoden 4 was a waste of time, I would agree, but how far into Suikoden V did you get? The prologue lasts like 10-15 hours, but if you hang in there and learn to live with the loading times, the game becomes extremely fun and rewarding. At least I thought it did. I'd rank it as the best PS2 game I've played, even if it did have an unusually slow start.

As for Suikoden Tierkreis, I just started playing it two days ago. My initial impression was not positive. In fact, I hated it. I thought it was terrible in more ways than Suikoden IV. The voice acting was especially grating: From the main character's super-fast delivery to the village chief's daughter's misplaced emphases, I was forced to put the game on mute. The constant random battles, the complete lack of any sort of challenge, the Hornswaggle-like running animations, the "pick your location" town-navigation, etc. sure didn't do much to reassure me that the game was going to pick up the pace. But it did. A little. I put five hours into the game yesterday (not five consecutive hours, mind you), and around four of them were actually enjoyable.

Once you get your base, the game starts feeling more like a Suikoden, albeit slightly watered down, which is acceptable since it's a handheld game. I've gotten over the character animations now and noticed that Tierkreis is actually a very good-looking game. The voice acting has also been cut down on significantly at this point, and whenever it does come in now, it's not as bad as it was in the beginning.

There's absolutely nothing fun about fighting in this game, though, which is a shame. As long as you use healing magic every now and again, you can get away with auto-battling pretty much any opponent. \: Maybe there'll be a spike in difficulty once you get a little further into the game. But yeah, as it is, it's a fairly average RPG, but not anywhere near as bad as I'd initially assumed.
