Playstation Suikoden Series

YES!!! This forum has a Suikoden thread!!!!

Oh, was that a bit too enthusiastic? Thought I'd revive this thread to start some in depth discussion about the series. I've seen everyone talking about which game they played and how they liked it, but maybe it would be interesting to see how people think about some things story wise.

For instance: I've played Suikoden III (which isn't available for Europe...so I had to import the game) and to be honest the game wasn't that awesome. It had a decent story, but I got the feeling it was a bit too rushed and never showed some real in depth progress. Maybe because you played with 4 characters until a certain point, but story wise the game had so much potential. It is until you read the manga (Suikoden III: The Successor of Fate) that you learn more about the characters, their background but also about the antagonist and his reasons for doing what he does.

Next to that, I went to a manga exposition recently and actually learned a lot about Suikoden and how much influence the original story had on the art of tattooing. Though many who have played the games simply know Suikoden as a game, its origins come from a classical Chinese novel called Shui hu zhuan (later introduced as Suikoden, roughly translated as Tales of the Water Margin).

I could rant a whole lot more...but I've been a huge fan since playing the game and after learning about its origins and all it has become worse. The games are awesome (maybe not all of them). But next to the fact they each have an individual story, they also come together as a whole.
