Hi Guys,
Last week I bought a Nintendo DS, so I want to buy a Final Fantasy for the holidays. And there are three of them (FFIII, FFCC:ROF, FFXII:RW)
I played the following FF's
FFI (finished)
FFII (finished)
FFIV (unfinished)
FFVI (finished)
FFVII (finished)
FFVIII (unfinished)
FFIX (finished)
FFX (finished)
FFXII ('bout half way done)
FFT:A (finished)
So, what do you guys advise me? I like deep stories, plot-twists and not to much grinding. So, let me here your advise :)

Well Iv not played what ever that second one is, but I've played the other 2....On the whole, I found III to be more enjoyable, if a tad hard at places The lack of saves was a right pain in the arse, but it was really good and I liked the story

RW is also worth it but I think III was slightly better IMO :monster:

Oh good lord, throw Crystal Chronicles out of your list immediately, then go buy FF3. Buuut, if you like XII alot, and don't mind real-time strategy games, go for Revenant Wings. You really can't go wrong with either.

Well, on Dutch forums everyone was like w00t CC is soo friggin' awesome.
I was kinda sceptical. Maybe I buy RW and III otherwise I just buy III I guess

It's uh......well it's not that it's bad, but it's far from awesome. It's kind of weak in plot, and it's more or less an action-RPG dungeon crawler (think Vagrant Story, only not cool). Not to mention you have to put up with all the main characters being little kids and horribly annoying voice acting. So...really it depends on your taste. You can look it up on IGN if you're really that curious...but I'd definitely suggest III and RW first.

I'm gonna suggest Ring of Fates cause I know no one else will and it's not that bad, actually...and also because FFIII doesn't fit this bill very well...

Are they ALL little kids? Or is it just the two kids? >_> Anyways, you can turn the voice acting off if it's so horrible too (I did just because it makes my emu run slow)...

I haven't played the original Crystal Chronicles, but from what I've seen from RoF, it's kind of like Square's (second w/Seiken Densetsu?) attempt at a quasi-Zelda-like game. Spellcasting is bothersome, but otherwise gameplay is fine & it's an enjoyable handheld action-oriented RPG romp.

But, really, you should FOCUS and finish the games you HAVE already (this is the pot calling the kettle black, btw)!

FFIII & FFIX: RW are both great too though, I just thought I'd stick up for RoF since it seems slightly more of what you're looking for and to me is a nice change of pace from the other FFs...and the RTS-ness of RW can be kind of off-putting...but it's got good character development at least!

lol, fine, not ALL of them, just the two main characters :wacky: The design of the game is rather silly though...and some of the monster designs remind me a bit too much of Shadow of the Colossus, they look like they're make out of stone or something o_O

I've heard it likened to the Mana series, actually. But the Zelda comparison works too.

In short: RoF is up your alley.

FFIII requires MUCH grinding, which you've stated you dislike.

FFXII:RW shouldn't be touched since you haven't beaten XII yet.

I really don't think that matters. There's hardly any story in XII and the story in RW deals alot with the history of Ivalice. Really all you'd need to know before you played RW is who Vaan and Penelo are.

Aye totally, it doesn't even give anything of XII's plot away, you spend most of your time on the floating continents, in areas you never so much as sniff in XII. The battle system can be quite irritating and it's abit of a slow starter but once I got into it, I found the story really rather good. It's not all that hard but there are few challenging areas/bosses.

I think there will always be an elemet of grinding involved in any game, I know I had to do in this and III. Altho I stand by my earlier statement of III being sodding hard, but worth it :gasp:

Well, yeah, if you've played the original Seiken Densetsu (aka FFAdventure/FFGaiden), not Sword of Mana because that basically changed the original title into it's sequels, but the first Seiken Densetsu, on the old clunker Gameboy, it was SO overboard Zelda-clone it was ridiculous...gladly they realized the error of their ways and we got Seiken Densetsu II & III later on...^_^

As for the topic-at-hand...I see FFIV isn't finished...Waiting on FFIV DS? I know I am! Hope the ROM works on my emu...:P Yeah, that's right, you're gonna have ANOTHER FF choice on your hands here soon, HA!

Well, I just got Belias (The game has been on my shelf for some time and then I started over) now in 2 weeks my final exams start and they take about 1,5 week. after that I got like a month of doing nothing but gaming so I aim to finish FFXII because I am going to buy one of these games for my holiday to Spain where I will be in a bus for 18 hours (yes I got a second battery)
and FFIV is coming out I believe during my holiday so that one is not an option (yet):P

I can't really help you if your just looking for DS games. But if your looking for any FF games, I suggest that you play Final Fantasy Tactics. It's soooo much better than FFTA.

Ugh, I hate that ugly mofo, he reminds me of a totem pole or something. But by now you ought to have a general idea of who the main characters are, so I'd say RW is safe to get if you want to. To be quite honest....it's really unnecessary to have beaten XII or even played it. All you need to know is:
1. It's a year after XII and the war is over.
2. Vaan and Penelo are sky pirates.
3. Fran and Balthier find some treasure thing and you go help them.

And from what I've heard it takes around 25 hours to complete, give or take a few. Naturally you have sidequests and whatnot, so it should definitely last your bus trip.

I can't really help you if your just looking for DS games. But if your looking for any FF games, I suggest that you play Final Fantasy Tactics. It's soooo much better than FFTA.

Then go bump your post count elsewhere if you have nothing to contribute.

Ok case closed... going to buy Revenant Wings first, then I buy FFIV which would be rleased by then
