Hi,
(Forgot to say which game this is with, this is for the PS2 FFXII)
yes I know Dr. Cid is probably one of the easiest bosses in the game, but of course like in every game I play their the ones I get stuck on. :confused::shame:I feel like a loser asking help for this boss.....

Well I'm at the first time you fight him.

Heres some info on my "party":
Name, Level, HP, MP
then in the following order, under the other info, will be these: weapon, Armour

Vaan, 32, 2428, 224
Platinum sword, ice shield, red cap, Brigandine, golden amulet

Balthier, 32, 1874, 198
Platinum sword, platinum shield, red cap, brigandine, golden amulet

Fran, 32, 1996, 226
platinum sword, ice shield, red cap, brigandine, golden amulet

Basch, 31, 1874, 164
platinum sword, ice shield, red cap, brigandine, golden amulet

Ashe, 32, 1486, 234
Claymore, feathered cap, golden armor, golden amulet

Penelo, 32, 1955, 256
platinum sword, ice shield, red cap, brigandine , golden amulet

as you can see I like to keep every one equal :busta: then you dont relly on one person for everything and every one can deal decent damage. And yes I am going to get better armor soon. Every one has 2 quickinings and Balthier has the esper Matues, and Ashe has Belias. I have found the espers to be quite... worthless. Matues does deal some damage when summoned but the enemies just pile Balthier anyways so I dont even bother anymore.

They also all have almost the same License boards, most of them have 50+, 100+, 200+, and Vaan has 500+ HP. They also all have multiple 10% quicker reactions. SO they move pretty fast. Also to go with that some mp reduction things so curaga is only 19 MP for each cast. Cura is only 21 I think. Infact for a couple characters its less then that I think.

All their cambits are set up like this:

1. Ally HP<60% ---> curaga
2. Ally HP<70% ---> Cura
3. Ally any --------> Esuna
4. Ally any --------> Raise
5. Foe party leaders target --> attack
6. Foe nearest -----> attack

I didnt think about buying any potions but did buy 25 pheonix downs. I do have 1 hi-potion, and a ether. other then that just 52 smelling salts, alarmclocks, stuff like that. But I dont really need them anymore due to the fact that Esunas cheaper :busta:.

Well what I am having problems with is the stupid robot things mainly. I do a level 2 quickining on the robot in front and get 4-6 level 2 quickinings and 4-7 level ones in. Mostly doing about 12 chains. This does alot of damage and I have heard that the robots only have 9500 HP apeace and with a weak quickining doing 15,000 damage they dont die. Then to kill them I edn up having to do another 3,000+ damage with mellee to kill one. So buy the time I get done killing them my first 3 people are almost dead. So after their dead I move on to the second team which is penelo, fran, and ashe with ashe being the main attacker most the time. They all heal if they need to so theres always atleats one person healing. But after I kill all the robots Dr. Cid wips out this stupid power blast thing right away before I even do anything. Then he always hits "critical" when ever he attacks doing 500-700 damage each hit! :gasp: I get him about 1/3 the way dead then he attacks quicker or does another stupid blast thingy.

Also I try to train on the imperials on the other floors but theres none on floor 68 and 67 but on 66 theres 10 of them and they all hit 3+ times and all pile one person. So I kill a couple but almost die my self....

Maybe I should try to leave and go back to the underground thing where Ahriman was? kill some stuff there? Or can I not leave...

The weird thing is that I killed ahriman like he was a regular monster and he died pretty quick, same with the last 4 bosses, elder wrym, matues, Bergan, and Ahriman . But then had the same problem with Tiamat, he would get to chain 3+ hits each time and I couldnt do anything but try not to die.

lol well any suggestions? Im going to try to kill some stuff and then try to kill Dr. Cid again I probably just need to level every one up alittle then kill him.

well you have to have potions.

That's obvious.

I hope you have a save before this point you can reset to where you can buy some.

shrugs.

Well I thought I had plenty of potions before going but didnt after I needed them. I just screwed up alot before doing this one

I also didnt think about it and just saved over the last save.... I didnt think I would have any trouble with it and when I did think about it it was almost done saving.

I'm going to mess around and see what I can do to get an advantage. If its like the rest of the bosses I just need to level up alittle bit then its not so bad.

All their cambits are set up like this:

1. Ally HP<60% ---> curaga

I'm not quite sure how your party ever finds time to attack (except for the very beginning of the battle and whenever you manually tell them to). Do you have that problem?

One thing I try to do, is in each party, I try to keep one person with a low HP<% and another at about the range you have.

For example, say Vaan, Basch, and Fran is my current trio:
(these are pretty close to how I actually keep them for most of the game too)

Vaan:
1: Ally HP<30% ---> Cura/Curaga
2: Ally any ---> Esuna
3: Ally any ---> Raise
4: Foe: Party leader's target ---> Attack
5: Foe: Nearest ---> Attack

Basch:
1: Ally HP<20% ---> Cura/Curaga
2: Ally any ---> Esuna
3: Ally any ---> Raise
4: Foe: Party leader's target ---> Attack

Fran:
1: Ally HP<70% ---> Cura/Curaga
2: Ally any ---> Esuna
3: Ally any ---> Raise
4: Foe: Party leader's target ---> Attack

I like to keep them close, and I tend to have 2 of the 6 characters (Fran and Penelo) as "dedicated" healers, meaning they will always heal much sooner...around 70% health, and they will always use my highest level cure spell. I always make 2 of 6 (Basch and Ashe) "dedicated" attackers, meaning they will only heal when someone drops really low health (anywhere from critical to 30%). Vaan and Balthier usually end up as balanced, which in their cases they'll attack, but they'll heal if someones health drops to around half.

I set them up this way because I will almost always have someone attacking. I would be slightly wary of your healing gambits, because while yes, you'll get healed a bit quicker, you'll lose out on a round or two of attacks. Another thing is I would try not to use the espers. That's MP that could be used for healing. On top of that, against Cid, I'm not sure I'd use quickenings right away either. I know I saved them for when it seemed my healers couldn't keep up and he was going to knock one or more people out.

Surprisingly, the rooks aren't too hard. Just focus on one at a time. The first time I fought Dr. Cid, I had the hardest time. But my most recent playthrough, I blew past him easily. I don't remember my levels at the time, but I have a feeling I was slightly under-leveled in my most recent.

:D thanks I'll have to try that.

I dont really have the problem with every one healing because when one person heals the rest attack. And one person seems to heal the whole time then when their MP runs out a different person heals. I'll try what you said though as that seems alittle better.

O ya do any of you remember if the rooks have a HP bar to tell how much is left? On mine they dont so I have no clue which one is which if I didnt look at the # they are.

Ya I have found the espers to be worthless, the only thing I use matues for is killing those stupid flying birds on the phon coast :wacky: lol or I have people hitting them with mage. I meen the game makes the summonings look so epic so you think its going to do alot then just to find out its no better then one of the characters.

Also right after this I think I should go buy some stuff like armor and some of the higher potions. ANd maybe instead of golden amulets getting the double EXP things.

right i can see your problem all ready, unfortunately you have not got a balanced enough team. You will need at least 2 people with guns, i used balthier and penelo for this, one with a bow and arrow, fran, one with a great sword - vaan and 2 with a platinum sword and a sheild = barch and ashe. You need to be at a decent level of at least 35 for each character, i did it at level 40 for most of them and 39 for one of them and all the potions under the sun but dont bother with the crappy normal potions as they do squat all you need to do is use hi-potions and plenty of either. might help you to go and beat the snot out of few hunts and scale the world map from top to bottom again before proceeding. what you nee to do is use your quickening chains on the rooks quickly and get rid of them as they are the most troublesome, then should be easy enough as long as you have the potions. The best thing to do is equip all your party with bubble belts too and just before the fight cast bravery and faith on all party members. Good luck and i hope you have a previous save before you went to the draklor lab :)

lol ya thanks

I am killing the stupid imperials right now.

And no I didnt think to save a different file before the lab :oops: :wtf: so I have to level up in the lab which is proving difficult. I got back to the door out but it wont let me use it.

I guess form now on I'll save in two different files before I go into a new place.

Where would be the best place to get some guns/bows? Probably phon cost or Archades?

lol I scewed up big time this time..... :argh:

the best place would be archades as they will have all the latest weaponry but after you get past doctor cid you will be in balfonheim so you can get weapons from there too. yeah best bet to have at least 3 different slots just in case you accidentally take over the second one too. but easy mistake i did that myself on my first try of the game :)

I got ashe to level 34, penelo and vaan to almost 33, and every one else to 33 and they all are about to or have already gotten both 200+ and 500+ HP license thing so after I get every one to level 33+ I am going to try again. Also getting license set up for new weapons and armor. And just repeat this until I win. :mrgreen: might be playing a while though...... well I guess that gives me something to do for a while.

OMG that was easy :D lol he went down like I blew him up or something.

I had ashe at level 35 and every one else at 33. Sent ashe, balthier, and basch out first and did a level 1-2 quickining with 12 chains half and half of level 1 and 2. This killed one rook and I took out the others in maybe 5 minutes. Then attacked Cid and was hitting 1300+ on him each time so he died pretty quick. :D I didn't think that a couple levels would do that much. He just backed in the corner and died peacefully (ish) other then shooting my people and yelling HAH!!! every couple seconds.

I also bought the best bow I could find (dont remember name but it had 72 attack I think.) And got some fire arrows because their the only ones I could find. And a gun with 30 attack (best I could find) but I cant find any where that sells bullets? I was stupid and sold my ammo from before and I had a pretty good one I think. I teleported all over but couldn't find any. So instead of wasting my teleport stones I'm going to Google and ask on here.

I am going to give the bow to Penelo because her speed is the highest. And the gun(s) to Fran and Vaan. Because Fran has the weakest strength and vaan is equal to Balthier but hits less. I am keeping Basch, Ashe, and Balthier on melee weapons as they hit pretty hard all the time.

I tried both the things you guys said but both ended with me failing harder then I did how it already was set up. So I just stuck with the Gambits I had and it worked.

well done :). yeah he is relatively easy providing you have the right preperations before completed and you can get him in no time. Because he is a hume he is easier to defeat than a monster as they have limited deffences, but that also go for the monster and your party. by the time i was where you were in the lab the second time i played i had nerly all the abilities in the book ready to use. Well done again mate :)
