Are any of you strategy gamers?
And I mean hardcore strategy gamers, as in you play Aoe III, Civilization, etc.

If you are, post which strategy games you like the best, or your opinions on the genre in general.
I personally like strategy gaming, possibly a bit more than role playing games
*notice I said just a bit, you'd probably kill me if I said a lot:rolleyes: *

My favorite strategy games are of course Civ series and Aoe series.
And developers are still coming out with better ones graphically and in terms of gameplay. So WooHoo!! Go strategy.

Mods: If this is the wrong section, please feel free to move it.

Warcraft, the ORIGINAL Warcraft, is a damn good strategy game that more people should bother to play. Not only did it revolutionize how strategy games are made, it put Blizzard on the map.

You can download a demo of the game at http://www.blizzard.com/war1/ . The whole shebang (plus multiplayer) at virtually no cost from multiple online retailers.

I love strategy games I don't have a favorite game in particular but I'll name a few I like: Age Of Empires Series inc Age Of Mythology. Warcraft III. Red Alert series. Starcraft.

The strategy games I play are ones where you have time, but a limited amount, to think. First off, I was chess president for our club at high school for two years, leading the team to state titles and good rankings at nationals. I don't play as often as I did anymore, but I could probably take all of you on with the Alekeine's Defense (the greatest defense ever)!

Now I am into a board game (its also done by mail and now email) called Diplomacy. It takes the great elements of chess and combines them with politics. The goal is to, as a European power, take a majority of the territory in Europe prior to WWI. The only way to make progress is to work with others, even though they are trying to win too. Pacts, alliances, and lies are all part of the game. I currently play at www.diplomacy.ca , it is a great community for the game, and very supportive.

I also liked Advance Wars (the first two, the third (DS) took some of the glory away with its cheap combos). There are many strategic elements to consider as you build and command, and each Commanding Officer has a different style of play. This game is awesome to play with other humans, especially when Fog of War is turned on, causing much chaos.

I've played Diplomacy before. And I can see the relation between chess and that game. It's awesome!! I love chess too, but I can't seem to find my set, so I'm trying to get a more classy one...

As for Warcraft, I actually played that on the PlayStation. And I have to say that got me hooked on the strategy genre. I think I'm a natural at those kinds of games as I knew exactly what to do when I just jumped right in without the tutorials or anything.

And StarCraft rocks. The cheat codes made the game boring though. I only ever used the faster build cheat though. Never 'power overwhelming'.

Used to play a lot of these games like AoE I+II and Red Alert then stopped playing, only got back recently with Relic's Dawn of War series and planning to get C&C3 and Warcraft III eventually.

Great classic games, Red Alert and AoE.
I liked the overall feel of the games, rather historical, always a plus. ;)
I thought they were user-friendly as well, not like some of those really complex strategy games.

i have played a strategy game before i cant find many i like i have played romance of the three kingdoms 8 for ps2
off topic i know but it is a strategy game

I was planning on buying that game, well, at least the first one of Romance, but then all these other good games came out and RPG just took preference for me.
That game kinda reminds me of Civilization, maybe that's why I was interested in it. :D
