Prologue: Discovery
There wasn’t much that she could do at this point. Tari Lissesul was panicked as she hurriedly walked down the alleyway, hoping that there would be an exit to a busy street from her captors. She didn’t know who the men were that were following her, but she did know that they were up to no good. There had to be at least eight of them behind her, and the last thing in the world that she wanted was to be caught. None of them could be Mages, if they had been she would have been long caught by now.
Her straight, long red hair flowed as she ran, and much like her hopes of escape, dropped as she discovered that the alleyway she had walked down was a dead end. Quickly turning, she could see the faces of a couple of the men that followed her. Not much to her surprise, she could see that they were Orcs. Their big, rather ugly faces gave it away. Of course, that wasn’t to mention the smell of them. Everyone knew that Orcs weren’t too fond of baths.
As more of them came into view, she saw the Goblins in close pursuit behind the Orcs. The Orcs looked as if they were armed with daggers and short swords as the goblins approached with their spears. Tari, now more panicked than before, couldn’t see a way out of this. Trapped in a closed off alleyway between a wall, and a gang of Orcs and Goblins was not a great way to end the day.
They must have been only twenty or so feet away before they all stopped, and stared at her. Elven girl, red hair, blue eyes, and well dressed, she obviously came from a well off family, and she was rather beautiful. Thinking logically, she came to the conclusion that they either wanted her for her money, or they would want… something else from her. If they were looking for money, they wouldn’t find any. However, if they couldn’t find money, they could find something else to pleasure themselves with for a while.
As she was thinking, one of the Orcs stepped forward. No hair, big teeth, ugly clothes, and of course an uglier face, he strode forward with a sense of self-satisfaction on his face. As if trapping a young woman in an alleyway was the pinnacle of hard work and dedication. If she were blind, she could smell him coming from a mile away. It was putrid, as if he had rolled around in pig filth just before they started to chase her. His black denim coat was studded with spikes, and his pants were torn all over, she saw as he came closer with every step.
It seemed as if it was taking him an eternity to walk towards her as she looked for anything to use as a weapon, or any means of a rational escape. The walls were completely barren of anything that could have been shaken loose, nothing but brick and mortar, and the only means of escape was currently blocked off by the gang that trapped her here. She backed up against the wall, and slid down against it in hopelessness as she sat down, and looked at the ground.
The Orc that had been walking forward had now stopped directly in front of her. “What’s wrong, Elf? Not friendly enough to say ‘hi’?” His voice was deep, and filled to the brim with malice and hate. “It isn’t often the boys and I get some fresh Elf to play with,” he grinned.
She looked up, almost pathetically, “look, I have no money, I can’t offer you anything.”
The Orc looked her dead in the eyes as he said, “What made you think that we wanted any money?”
The gang behind him exploded into laugher. The louder their laughs grew, the more into dispare she fell. At this point, she couldn’t hold back her tears. She was scared, shivering, and now crying, which did nothing but fuel the laugher of the gang that had cornered her there.
The Orc then grabbed her arm and lifted her up on her feet. His hand was beyond dirty. It was a mess, if someone had rubbed sandpaper on her skin she couldn’t have told the difference. “You can come with us by force, or you can walk with us, but either way, you’re ours.” She was told by the head Orc. In a futile attempt, she slapped the Orc, but he didn’t move an inch. She couldn’t tell if he had even felt the slap. However, if he didn’t, her hand stung from the pain.
One of the Goblins from behind gave out a quick laugh, “Oh she’ll be sorry, she’ll be.”
“Aye, she’ll be the sorriest piece of ass in all of Parivand, if not the sorest!”
There was yet another explosion of laughter behind her as she realized that at this point, there was nothing she could do. The Orc then turned her around, and placed a pair of iron shackles on her wrists. He then picked her up, and placed her over his shoulder. “My, just feeling her breasts on my back is enough to get me riled up! We’re going to have a good time with you, my dear!”
She blushed, completely embarrassed, humiliated, and now there was nothing she could do. She wished at this point that she had studied her magic more. If only she knew a simple spell, anything, anything at all at this point would help her tremendously. The gang walked out of the alleyway as Tari wanted to vomit from the smell of the giant oaf of an Orc. As they were about out of the alleyway, there was a group of people standing in their way, and blocking their path.
“You Orcs and Goblins must be part of ‘The Orc Devils’”, the hooded man standing in front said. He stood there, completely covered, with no part of his body showing wearing a black robe that had a hood covering his face with shadow.
“What’s it to you? You and your friends got beef with us? Take it to the Guild Leader.”
“Negative, that is none of our concern. Your guild leader, as well as your guild, is completely insignificant.”
“What did you say?”
“I was aware that Orcs were stupid, but I wasn’t aware that they’re apparently deaf as well.”
Shortly after he said that, there was a small grunt from behind him. It sounded as if it came from one of the bigger people that was with him.
“You here for the girl then?”
“Only because I can’t, or at least don’t want to, imagine the things you would do to her. We just happened to be in the area when we… smelled something foul in the air.”
There was yet another grunt from behind the man.
Everything else happened in a flash. The Orc threw the girl aside, bumping her head on the ground as she passed out. As he charged towards the man, the rest of the Orcs followed, as well as the Goblins. The man in front didn’t move as the people behind him drew their weapons. Spears, swords, maces, and one with a bow, all were ready for a fight.
The Orc reached the man and lifted his fists together to bash him over the head. However, he would never get that chance. The man thrust his hand into the Orc’s stomach, and without a second glance, walked past the Orc as he fell to the ground to fight off the rest of them. There was a clash of steel upon steel as the girl slipped from consciousness. She couldn’t see any more fighting, but she didn’t miss much. The battle was over in an instant, the mysterious hooded men or women had won, not losing a single person.
The main hooded man walked over to the girl. “Thurgood, go get your van, we’re going to have to take her back to the guild hall.”
“Sure thing, no eating in it, though.”
“I didn’t buy a burger to not eat it. I’m starving, and I’ll be damned if I can’t eat in your van.”
“Fine, but a single mustard stain, and you’re cleaning it.”
“Deal. Now go get the damn van.”
He picked the girl up in his arms as he walked out of the alleyway, over the bodies of the Orcs and Goblins. They weren’t dead… even if they would wake up wishing they were. He looked at the now unconscious girl, she was kind of cute. Waving that kind of thought from his head, he waited for Thurgood and his van to pull up. Almost on cue, he saw it, the brown and green van that Thurgood practically lived in. Placing her on the seat, he climbed inside next to her. The rest of the people had already started walking back home, the mission was accomplished.
Pulling out his cell phone, he messaged the boss.
<Mission Accomplished: I expect retaliation from The Orc Devils, but we shouldn’t be afraid.>
<Good>
He then put his cell phone back into his pocket. He noticed the girl was somewhat waking up. Thinking that she wouldn’t want to see a hooded man taking her somewhere in the back of an unknown van, he lifted his hood, and showed her his face. His white hair and red eyes stuck out almost instantly as he smiled at her. “Rumor has it that you’ve been looking for us, Ms. Lissesul. You’re in safe hands now, don’t worry.”
“You guys are…?”
“Correct, we’re Elementia. You’ve been, by powers that I’ll never understand, preapproved to join us. However, you had better start working on those combat skills of yours. A cute face and helpless demeanor isn’t going to get you far in this guild. My name is Círdan Nénmacil, and contrary to what you may think, I am not your friend.”
With a smile on his face, he looked out of the window and took a bite into his burger. Suddenly, his smiled faded.
"Damned Orcs made my burger go cold."
Thurgood laughed, "serves you right. I didn't want you eating in here anyway."
