As you may know, Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMORPG developed by Bioware, and it features a sweet fully voiced dialogue system where you get to make life or death decisions. People who have played Bioware games before know how this works.
It's very story-driven, no walls of text, very cinematic, you can own your own ship as your home and you get to use it as transportation to navigate from planet to planet, and there's intense PvP.
Here's a video of the gameplay

Here's last year's E3 trailer

And here's this year's E3 trailer

This is probably the first time I'm genuinely excited over an MMO. So, are you going to play it when it comes out? Are you going to be Jedi or Sith? Will you play FFXIV instead? or will you play neither?

Sith Inquisitor all the way, im really looking forward to this game and have been following it closely since it was first announced, I really have high hopes for it due to bioware's excellent ability to integrate stories into there games and the fact they have been working closely with Mythic, the creators of Dark Age of Camelot.

/sits anxiously staring at inbox daily for the beta invite to appear :wacky:

well we can all dream cant we?

As long as they bring this out on Xbox, (why wouldn't they? I don't think they've had a PC or PS3 exclusive game yet) then I'll definitely give it a try.I hate MMO's in general, but I've saved up enough confidence in Biowareover the last few years to be willing to try anything they make.
I enjoyed what little I got to play of KotOR before I got fed up of Xbox's shitty BC and I hope this can somewhat improve on it.

Indeed, hope the XBox gets a look in as I enjoyed the other 2 games and Bioware are gaming Gods. My laptop wouldnt be able to get this running online. I would be a Jedi first go through and every games going on hold lol!

Sweet, I'm definitely rolling a Sith Warrior. I think the Warrior can use force lightning to stun, like in the video. but eh, who knows. If you get the beta you have to tell me what it's like :gasp: I'd sign up for beta but I still need to upgrade my graphics card.

Actually, I think some of the Baldur Gates games were PC exclusives. Releasing the game on Xbox, would in fact, be a treat. Though I still don't own a 360 yet so I don't know much of its online service or how a keyboard would work on it. I feel the same way about MMOs. FFXI was one of the most boring games I've ever played. WoW was fun and the world was nice...for a while. Aion was just a polished WoW. It was in fact, a better game but it didn't have WoW's lore. Also, the story was weakly implemented with walls of text. But this beast sold me with the voice acting and decision making. And don't say that >__< I'm planning on playing KOTOR 1 & 2 on the 360. How bad is it? does the FPS drop or what exactly?

So basically..in the game...you're going to be a republican :wacky:

I can say that I am super geeked about this game after watching the newest video. I mean I know it won't look like that when you play but it still gets your blood pumping to know that you are going to be part of something epic. As for what I am going to play....Jedi Knight all the way baby. :starwars: I dont know why but I dont like being evil in video games, in games where there are good endings and bad endings, when I try too get the bad ending I end up half way through the game doing good things. :wacky: And I also plan on at least trying FFXIV just because I am sure there will be a 1 month free trial and I am all for some free MMO'ing.

LOL, I actually know someone who's like you :wacky: He could never get himself to be a bad guy all the way. I always go evil on my first playthrough, I don't know why. Maybe it's because I'm such a nice guy in real life and I need to balance my persona? :wacky: I'm not sure about a month long trial but I definitely plan on trying it at least. I highly doubt I'll stick with it since I've got SWTOR and XI didn't work out well for me. And so far, XIV looks a whole lot like XI.

Wow :lew: I thought I was the only one who did that in games. And what do you mean that XIV looks like XI? Are you talking about actual gameplay or just the way it looks? Because I really wanted to try it out but if its going to be exactly like XI then I might reconsider. :hmmm:

Just the way it looks. I watched a bunch of videos of people playing it and it LOOKS similar to the XI experience. I can't say that is plays like XI and I can't say that the experience is like XI, which is why I plan on trying it. I guess what I'm trying to say is, because of how it reminds me of XI, I'm not all that optimistic (or at least I feel that way). But I could be wrong, who knows. Let's hope it's good.

Oh okay then, that makes sense. Well I was in the same boat as you anyway I was planning on trying FFXIV but didn't have very high hopes. But Square has been known to throw a few curve balls in the ole thought process and make some kick ass games, and maybe just maybe FFXIV will be one of those. :D

Just MAYBE. Nobuo Uematsu was the first good thing I heard about this game to be honest. Graphics are way good for an MMO.

Sweet update people. The Old Republic are introducing new races (species) for specific classes. So I guess we're not limited to humans after all. Races include: Sith Pureblood for Sith Warriors, Miraluka for Jedi Knights, Mirialans for the Jedi Counsulars and Zebraks for Sit Inquisitor. I might give this a go eventually, but I don't plan play it straight from launch. I'm still pretty sceptical about how a fully voiced MMO is going to work. The only 2 ways I can really see it working is that either other players will be able to interrupt or attack you when you're engaged in dialogue (which is annoying) or the game will rely VERY heavily on phasing (which in my opinion ruins the immersion factor in an MMO).

There's also World of Warcraft: Cataclysm coming out later in the year which I am very excited about, so I don't see myself playing TOR in the near future.

That latest video makes me even more excited for this than I already was. The fact that capital ships are actually falling during battle is one thing that I'm looking forward to, as minor as it may be. In addition to this, the general mechanics for space battles don't look all that bad, although I fear a lot of lag during these sequences, due to more constant explosions, as well as a more expansive map as opposed to a ground-based map.

A quite interesting blog post by a disgruntled former Mythic (now BioWare-Mythic) employee has some not so nice things to say about TOR. Here's the exact quote:
EA Louse said:
And Bioware? Don’t make me laugh. They’ve spent more money making the Old Republic than James Cameron spent on Avatar. Shit you not. More than $ 300 million! Can you believe that?

And you know what they’re most proud of? This is the kicker. They are most proud of the sound. No seriously. Something like a 20Gig installation, and most of it is voiceover work. That’s the best they have. The rest of the game is a joke. EA knows it and so does George Lucas, they’re panicking , and so most of Mythic has already been cannibalized to work in Austin on it because they can’t keep pushing back launch.

The legitimacy of the source has yet to be confirmed, and even if it is a legitimate source, it could just be a bitter disgruntled ex-employee making a big fuss about nothing. If it is true however, it doesn't bode well...
