Stacked Spells

What is spell stacking? I never use mages and I rarely play MMORPGs but every time I do either people are always talking about spell stacking and all this other crap which I can only assume stemmed from D&D. Is it like when you cast magic missile at the darkness? lulz

Stacking spells? Well I only know the basics of D&D because I have a couple of friends who play it. I do know about some MMO terms. Although, some are different in each MMORPG.

Stacking spells is just stacking effects. One per person can use a effect on a target. More people cast it on the same target making the spells stack. Usually spells that stack are +DMG effects and DOTs. DOTs are damage over time, basically the equivalent to the poison spell in Final Fantasy.

OOM - Out of Mana
AOE - Area of effect
Buff - Beneficial spell. Usually cannot be stacked. Buff can be also enhancing a character, opposite of nerf.
CC - Crowd Control. Usually a mage-type class fits the job.

I guess these are 'mage' related terms.

but spell stacking, I may not know what it means but it seems self explanatory to me
