Square Enix producer Takamasa Shiba has told VG247 that he is looking forward to hardware improvements afforded by the yet-to-be-announced PSP2.

Speaking with us in Tokyo regarding upcoming PSP actioner Lord of Arcana, Shiba said that while hardware is something that’s constantly being both created and tweaked, software needs to be created to push new hardware on consumers.
“There are a lot of things I’m excited for the PSP2, but I’m more interested in hardware specifics rather than a unique feature,” said Shiba.
“Hardware is always coming out, so the software needs to be pushing the hardware as well. So, if they put something in that’s very unique then it is hard to create games for it.
“As a creator, I’m looking forward to mainly hardware improvements.”
PSP2 has become one of the worst kept secrets in gaming. Rumored to be codenamed “Veta,” the handheld’s existence has yet to be confirmed by Sony, but, clearly, many developers have had kits in-house for quite some time: developers such as Netherrealm Studios and EA.
Late last year, VG247 received grainy shots of the PSP2 dev kit, and numerous technical specs for the handheld have been released over recent months.
PSP2 is expected to release in late 2011.

@Hatifnatten:
Where would they place another? Bottom right? Under the X buttons and what not? Personally, I agree with you, a second would be nice. But what kind of games would require a second?

I think their biggest issue is hardware and the system's enhancements. A second analog stick would take up a lot of space, decreasing the space they need to make bigger improvements.

Or so I think xD

I somewhat agree with a need for a second analog stick. Camera control, FPS control, etc would be a lot easier. Killzone could actually be on the PSP in First Person, which would be exciting.

If they don't add one, I'm not going to cry about it though.

This PSP2 does indeed look sexy, however its not the official one..its probably fanmade..

Also there are rumours the PSP2 has(Will Have) twice the ram as a freeking 360 :gonk:

Isn't it just common sense what he said :wacky: Surely every developer looks forward to the next console or next handheld to work with, it takes time to develop engines and have them working properly but after that you can do a hell of a lot more with the new console/handheld than the previous one. That said, Sony should do something about the UMDs, the Bluray was a massive step forward so they should try the same process with UMDs.

Oh snap! I hope that's true! It would probably cost 300+ dollars though, but if it has that much power in a handheld, then it will be worth the money. :x3:

I'd like to see online play possible for people who don't have a Money tree for another system. So that all you needed was the game + PSP and then internet connection and then BAM! Online play. :)
