Firstly, I wasn't entirely sure where to put this, so I put it in this forum. If it's in the wrong place, I request that a mod move it to the correct forum.

This post is a question regarding spoiler tags, and whether or not they are being properly implemented on the forums. When I accidentally gave away "game secrets" in this page of a thread, I was reprimanded for not using spoiler tags. Of course, the concept was foreign to me, so I reluctantly complied with the administrator's wish, and now use them frequently as to not ruin games for other players.

However, there are still threads like these out there where there's literally almost a spoiler in each post, yet no moderation action is taking place unlike the instance where I was discussing FFX/FFXII storyline connections and comparisons. In this way, I sort of feel like I was attacked for not posting properly, while everyone else out there is free to use spoiler tags or not at their own whim.

This question stems not from a wish to be argumentative or troublemaking, but rather from my wish to be a courteous poster, but not seeing the same actions taking place among the other users here on FFF. Are there some game secrets we're allowed to spoil without using spoiler tags? How can you decide whether or not to use them? Are we allowed to spoil games like FF7, FF8, and FF9 but not games like FF10 or FF12? Where does one draw the line when coding their posts?

I have seen many other spoilers left unguarded across the site, and have noticed no action being taken about it. Thus is why I am confused, and thus is why I pose this inquiry out of sheer bewilderment. Any mod or user who is knowledgeable enough to clear up the air for me, please reply knowing that I am not looking to cause tension or anything of that nature.

I personally have never told someone off for not using spoiler tags, so that all depends on the mod. It differs from user-to-user about spoiler tags too. Personally I think that members should use common sense when reading threads - If you haven't played the game chances are, you're going to read a spoiler. No need to get upset over it.

Basically, spoiler tags are optional, and peoples reactions to them are different, don't worry about them =]

In the first thread you link it was "FFX - Worth Getting?". You need to use spoiler tags in that thread because members who have never played FFX might view the thread. Members who want to know weather or not to get Final Fantasy X. You have to be careful what you say, and do not ruin any spoilers for people who haven't played FFX.

The second thread you linked was about the saddest moments of FF. Most people who were replying to the thread played most of the Final fantasy games. After all, the thread topic will obviously reveal many spoilers as well as spoiling the endings, since the topic is about sad moments.

Well if it varies from mod to mod, then shouldn't all users use them excessively, then? If one mod doesn't care and the other is strict about it, it would make sense to just use them like crazy to satisfy the mods that want them in every post.

Ah, so you use tags based on the nature of the thread? I suppose that makes more sense, then. I just found it odd for the rule to vary throughout the site.

Moderators are suppose to notify members about using spoiler tags and editing their post. It's not really a warning, just a heads up. You don't have to use them excessively, just depends on the topic and what type of people will be viewing it.

Yes, you should. For example the thread is on "What did you think of the FFXII ending?". Well, yes, of course the ones who reply have beaten FFXII so there isn't a point to use spoiler tags.

One thing I will say... You must use spoiler tags on upcoming games and games that were just released. If you know something about Crisis Core and Genesis for example, use a spoiler tag.
