I'm hoping the techies of the site can provide some form of assistance for me.

I have a friend who is currently having difficulties with his speakers. We know that they are functioning fine - he can listen to his music through iTunes and he can still hear whatever might be going on in his games. Even his films and other such like activities function perfectly well. The problem lies on the internet - no sound is heard on the internet.

He currently uses Internet Explorer and, for the purposes of this thread, has downloaded Mozilla Firefox - neither of which allow sound to be heard through the speakers. As I have mentioned, it can't be them, because I've heard them play everything else myself. You'd assume he's missing some form of plug-in. However, plugging in earphones rectifies the problem. As common sense goes, the sound is simply being directed elsewhere when earphones are plugged in, which leaves you thinking that the speakers are malfunctioning. As above, that's clearly not the case.

My last thought was that there's an option somewhere that simply has to be clicked on - he's obviously somehow stopped his speakers from complying with the internet. It's worked previously with the internet and, to his recollection, there was no significant event that may have caused such a problem.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I looked it up and saw this on another forum, try to see if the below works.

"Alright the problem is really the mapping of wavemapper in Windows registry as reported by one member of the forum. All you need to do is to open registry editor by going to Start menu, Run, typing regedit and then Enter. After that, in the registry editor, walk yourself through the tree in the left pane, till you reach

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

And then on the right pane, right click and click on New, select String value, enter "wavemapper" (without quots of course), ENTER, type "msacm32.drv", ENTER.

Close the editor. No need to restart. Video on Google and YouTube et al would work fine now."

I have no idea what any of the means myself and, chances are, neither will my friend. However, I appreciate that and I'll pass on the information and report back on the sound situation.

Ok, I'll make it into a checklist to make it easier to read. Sorry in advance if it sounds patronizing.

1. Click on the Start menu
2. Click on Run which is located above Turn Off Computer.
3. In the small window that opens up put in regedit then click on ok.
4. A window labelled Registry Editor will open, in the left side work your way through the following folders.
My Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion > Drivers32

By this point the folder named Drivers32 should be highlighted and on the right hand side there will be a list of items in there.

5. Now in the right hand side right click and select new (which should be the only option) then on string value which will appear in the list. Name this as wavemapper.
6. Finally click on it so it'll come up with a window called Edit String which you can put in the Value data. In this field put in
msacm32.drv then click on ok.

That should hopefully fix it.
