I found out about this anime today and I have been watching the episodes non stop. If im correct there are only thirty something episodes and there are 3 movies. Would I lose vital plot elements by skipping the movies or just watching the anime series would end up being a satisfying experience without further need for manga or movies. Basically does the anime on its own portray a good beggining to end story?

The movies are exactly the same story as the anime, so you wouldn't miss anything by skipping them. I say exactly the same...y'know how converting an anime to a movie can change tiny things slightly.
Still, the movies are pretty decent if you really like the anime

Nice. What about the manga? Does it portray a continuation of the story? Further information regarding death note or really anything else important and worth checking out that is missing in the anime.

The manga definitely has more information on how the Death Note operates. All together the rules of the Death Note are at the end/beginning of every single chapter.

As a Death Note fan, I would recommend reading the manga (even online if you want) and watching the movies. The movies are different from the anime but you won't really miss anything by not watching them. I think the actor who portrayed L was absolutely amazing. So it's worth watching just for his performance.

And have fun watching the anime. In my opinion it is absolutely mind blowing. It's extremely addictive, smart, psychological, and just one giant mind fuck.

There's also the Rewrite specials (Death Note Relight: Visions of a God and Death Note Relight 2). Both of these have several extra scenes. And the first one introduces a character that has been the center of some debate among Death Note fans. But don't watch these until you have watched the regular anime.

I wouldn't say it's shitty.....just something happens that changes things around. I won't say what happens in case you haven't reached that point. But I do agree the first half is better.
