Hello! I need someone's help please. I appear to be the only one online, who ever played the original Final Fantasy II for SNES. Has anyone else played it? Does anyone else know about it? I have been looking for 20 years, and the ROM does not exist. I have found no other person talk about it!

Here are some details, that I remember:

1. Secret passages were not highlighted.
2. The game was HARD. It took at least DAYS of levelling up, to defeat just the Mist Dragon. Days of levelling up, before any new adventure.
3. Tower of Bab-il and Zot treasure chests were not glowing red chests, but were... silver orbs?
4. Save spots looked different.
5. Kain has an FMV at the end, with a close-up of his Dragoon mask, as he removes it, and you see his face, with blond hair and blue eyes.
6. The ending sequence, was not a cheesy solar system animation.

Please help! I miss it so much, and it is driving me crazy! Thank you for your time.

I guess I am...

Maybe this is some sort of secret?

It is impossible that I am the only one???

Gone ahead and posted this in our Discord, but I have no idea if people can help. Also moved this thread to the correct section, FFII, and merged with your other.

I do have to remind you of the rules of our site:

Illegal Content
To respect the copyrights of Square Enix and other parties, we do not permit people to post links to download emulators, torrents, warez, music, films, etc. Any links to ROMs or discussions about how to obtain ROMs are forbidden on this site. Emulation itself is not illegal, however downloading or uploading ROMs for others to download is very illegal.

So as of a member commenting and giving some insight:

Abstract Debauchery
Alright, so it sounds like they played Final Fantasy 2 on the SNES. Due to localization, it was called Final Fantasy 2, but was actually Final Fantasy 4. If they're looking for a ROM and/or emulator, it will likely just be listed as Final Fantasy 4.

However, emulator discussion as pointed out above is not allowed. I hope this answers your question. If not, please be a bit more clear as to what it is you're asking, if you can.

FF2 SNES in the US was really FF4 in Japan. Steam lists it as FF4.

Thank you. But who cares about the law?

To this day, there is no great way for a non-Japanese speaker to play the original FF4. Back in 2001, J2e released an "uncensored" translation meant to emend some of the "problems" in the Final Fantasy Chronicles version. Turns out they just took the Chronicles script and spammed it with a lot of gratuitous foul language for shock value. Joelsmith380 released a better translation in 2009, but it's still weak in a few key places. Masaru fixed the most obvious error in a 2022 addendum patch, but left others untouched. So, basically, the "best" way to play the original FF4 is to have the Chronicles disc, but then you have to deal with its awful load times.

This is why I hate remakes. Inevitably they overshadow the original work, and then the number of people who can relate to the original experience diminishes. Personally, I play the ORIGINAL German FF7, where "Materia" is "Substanz."

I have no interest in Final Fantasy 4. Nor anything else you mentioned. Please read the question, prior to replying.

This is a very rude response, as were some of your other responses. But I chalk it up to confusion. My response was quite relevant, but apparently you do not see how. Hopefully you learn some humility so that you can recognize how people here were trying to be helpful to you.

It was WAY more polite than deserved! What is the purpose of randomly telling things to a stranger for no reason?

Nothing I said was rude. I am not the one confused here. Your response is not relevant at all. I ask NOTHING about anything you said.

I do not need to learn humility. You need to accept that people are not interested in random things. No one has helped yet. At all.

All I got was "We don't like 3 replies at once!" And "This is a police-worshiping fan club! Not a video game site! We love the law here!"

If you want to be more clear with what exactly it is that you're even looking for by all means. But you don't have to be weird to members about it. Either stick to your topic at hand or I'll close this thread because it's getting derailed.

If no one has helped yet at all, then maybe your answer either can't be found here, or your question hasn't been understood.

Why would I want to do that? I am not. I am. It is OTHER people that are posting weird things, that have nothing to do with the conversation. It is MY thread!

Or maybe it can? It is none of your business. Then they need to learn English.

Disrespect me again, and your family will pay.

And I don't know 1 country where ROMs are illegal. lol Why would you even post that? Even if they were illegal in some random country, who cares about the law?
