It has been said that the creators of Final Fantasy are fans of Star Wars, for example there are 2 characters in Star Wars entitled Biggs and Wedge and there are also two characters entitled Biggs and Wedge in FFVI and FFVIII. Maybe in some other ones too. Here are the similarities or influence of Star Wars on FFIX I noticed:

Darth Vader = Queen Brahne

Queen Brahne was sort of Brainwashed by Kuja into becoming a heartless evil b**ch, not unlike Anakin Skywalker being brainwashed into becoming Darth Vader in Ep. III. And like Darth Vader at the end of Return of The Jedi, Queen Brahne returned to good and realized her wrong doings before
her death, with Garnet kneeled right before her,
like Luke to his father.

Darth Vader = Kuja

A major recurring theme in this game seems to be redemption and the fact that everyone has good inside them, it is only masked by their intentions. Kuja is the villain of the story and at the end,
he sacrifices himself for Zidane and his friends, the ultimate act of good. Like Darth Vader, again, at the end of Return.

Zidane and Princess Garnet = Han Solo and Princess Leia

Zidane, like Han Solo, is a smuggler, a criminal, a theif. A rogue bad*** that we all want to be like. Princess Garnet, like Leia is sweet, strong, but troubled. At first, like in the Star Wars movies, the Princess rejects Zidane
but eventually at the end of the story, they fall in love.

theres probably more but I'm very tired right now. :doze:

You're forgetting the most obvious reference in the game to Star Wars - Necron saying "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering" (words also spoken by Yoda in The Phantom Menace).

Why does EVERYTHING have to be forcefully linked back to Star Wars? >_>

Was it like...the first good film or something? D:

well, it IS a known fact that the Final Fantasy creators are Star Wars fans.

And Charlie, thanks, I don't know how I forgot that one. Anymore?

Yeah... But technically, that was Star Wars referencing FFIX. As FFIX came out before Phantom Menace.

Yoda said that in The Empire Strikes Back, first. :ffs: So, yeah, it was in Star Wars before FFIX.

Ok,ok. If we're playing the star wars game then...

Invincible= Death Star. ¬_¬

Yeah, but dude, he just said he said it in the Empire Strikes back which is dating to around my birth, i.e the time of the NES. So it is possible, but then again, you can do it with most thinks, you could probably put plenty of movies to different FF games and their coinicidences couldn't you?

Maybe not as obvious as this... But just maybe?

No it didn't. The Phantom Menace came out in May 1999, Final Fantasy IX came out in Japan in July 2000.
Ah... I thought I remembered seeing Phantom Menace in theaters AFTER I played FFIX... Guess I was wrong.

Yup, but it still means that they wouldn't really have time to rip of the film though does it? Can't take them a year to make the whole game, they must of had some plot when they started... Well, it isn't really ripping it off though, it's a good game.

I agree that in every Final Fantasy besides VII, VIII. The villian in a way becomes good, but that is only because their mother's didn't love them I think. LMAO! xD

But really Star Wars and Final Fantasy are the same no similarities they just can't copyright the darn thing, if they did George Lucas would be so far up their a** when he blew they would spit.

But that is what I think.

Strictly the quote by Yoda was said in the trailer for The Phantom Menace which started doing the rounds in late 1998 I think (I can't remember exactly). So they'd have had some time to slot it in when making the game. Though if as said Yoda said those lines in Empire Strikes Back (back in 1980) then it's all irrelevant anyway.

It's not ripping it off by any means anyway, all the references FF does to the outside world (and there's one to Star Trek in FFIX too) are just little homages, nothing more sinister than that. No-one is saying otherwise.

Well that isn't really what I meant. I didn't mean oh their both ripping from each other I just think it very funny that if you really look at it they do kind of run together alittle.

I mean don't get me wrong I love them both, but it is quite funny.

I wouldn't say so much ff9. Ff12 is a direct ripoff

Any Judge - Darth Vadar
Empire - Empire
Bahamut - Death Star
Balthier - Han Solo
Ba' Gamnan - Boba fett
Strahl - Millenium Falcon
Vaan - Luke skywalker
Ashe - Leia
Bhujerba - Bespin
Uratan Yensa - Tusken Raider

I haven't even watched Star Wars. The comparisons are so blatantly obvious someone with a passing knowledge can point em out.

Original Quote From SongStressDagger: ummm i think FF12 was more like star wars than ff9
specially the whole endind

Oh no I must put my ear muffs on, because I have yet to beatt eh game to be able to see the ending.

But now that you mention it, I can see the similarities between the Star Wars and FF XII.

But I myself think that the whole series of FF in one way or another can be but in the prospect of Star Wars.

As Busta once said, Final Fantasy is NOT Star Wars.

I fail to see the comparisons. I always have. I see comparisons between two stories with great plots but it's not a copy/paste job no matter how you slice it. Besides, it's not uncommon to have a villain in a story about good and evil! You can't just claim that every bad guy is copied from Darth Vader because he's bad and he's a guy! That's stupid! It's like saying every FF villain is the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood because he's mean. It's an idiotic statement.

And tell me, how is Zidane... Han Solo? Did Han have a tail? Was he a born and bred killing machine that went defunct when he was sent to another planet? Did he participate in the festival of the hunt? Did he hang out with a women who could conjure summons because they were born in a tribe with special abilities? Did he use a fucking sword? No. Oh but yea... he was a thief. Fuck. Must've been a Han Solo reference. Gosh you're clever. You know the Pink Panther? Robin Hood? François Villon? any character Martin Lawrence has ever played? Yea, they're all based off of Han Solo because they stole things and like women. Dear lord, someone call the authorities for copywrite infringement!

Guys, please make sure this thread stays on topic. It seems to be shifting away from IX and more towards XII.

If you want to discuss the simularities between XII and Star Wars please either find or make another thread for it in the XII section. ^_^

i can see the similaritys but they just arent the same, imo the creators of each must be fans of the other :) so they take quotes and ideas from eachother
