So, I was thinking the other day about different companies who have made game consoles and then I thought about Microsoft. It was originally making computers and such, then it came out with the Xbox. I tried thinking of a company that would make a good gaming company and I thought of Apple. They have made computers, iPods, and iPhones. What if they decided to make a game console? It isn't exactly a stretch from what they already have made because the newer iPods are able to play games on them. What do you think about this, do you think Apple should or will make a game console???

i think they should i mean yeah it would start out slow but in the long run it would be a great company

From a consumer's point of view, definitly, the more competitors the better. They'll be competing with each other leading to better technology and therefore an improved gaming experience, also the competition will drive prices down.

From apple's perspective, I'd say no. Whilst they could make profits from diversifying, it's more trouble than it's worth. They'd be entering a highly competitive market with strong brand loyalties, so breaking in would be difficult. Apple specialse in computers, not gaming, so a whole new type of technology. Also expansion in the current economic climate would be extremely unwise.

They would have to release something like the Wii - directed at the casual gaming market. Gettign devs on board might not be so easy though. Microsoft had a much stonger infrastructure of prorammers etc inventing languages for gaming (DirectX) Apple doesn't have that. They would struggle to break into games.

I Agree, Apple is more of a hardware company that thrives on selling an OS, that is the best for graphical design, and overall web browsing. I've used a Mac for gaming, and let me tell you it sucked :(.

As far as apple making a gaming console is concerned I couldn't agree more. Does Microsoft have something on the market similiar to an iPod? If they do(hypothetically), it wouldn't sell as well as an iPod does. I believe the same would happen if Apple made some kind of console.

NO, Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo are more than enough.
Hell I liked it better when it was just Nintendo and Sega for the most part.

Next thing you know there will be another System where a few cool games will out for and if you ever want to play them you have to buy another system but who has room for another system and .....oh no ive gone crosseyed.

Simply put, No, I do not think they should.

I agree with Kasabian, from a consumers point of view, it would be great. But from Apple's POV, it simply isn't worth the effort. Personally, I hope Apple stays where they are. They're doing extremely well with the iPod, iPhone, and Macbook.

I'm just not ready for a new console, I'm still trying to keep up with the current three. Not to mention the handhelds.
