The Damned

I tried to fly, but I drowned. I didn’t know how it started. It was a typical meet and greet at the bar. She was polite, subtle, an angel. You see, you think the guys are the ones who fuck everything up. Maybe everyone’s right because I think I messed this one up. The meet and greet didn’t last very long, maybe just for half an hour. We sat there at the bar drinking and talking. I lost sense of what was going on, it doesn’t take much to get me bladdered.

I saw him at the bar, but he was surrounded by girls. He saw me and acted like he was all on his own. He was trying to steal my heart away from the bloke that was telling me about his two little girls. And unfortunately, he managed to steal it. We were stood at the bar for about half an hour drinking and talking. It was meant to be a meet and greet event, a chance for new university students to meet new people. He was the type to get drunk so easily. If only I hadn’t walked to the bar.

Her name was Vanessa. It was a pretty name for a pretty girl like her. Having slipped into the partying mood, we took to the dance floor and, well, we danced. That’s what students did. That’s what people who want to have a good time did. There were some good songs playing. It was a shame she didn’t want to stay for too long.

His name was Matt. We went to the dance floor, even though I really didn’t want to go because I was such a shit dancer. He slipped his tongue into my lip. It was repulsive, like poison seeping through my veins. But I just let him do whatever he wanted. He didn’t mean it, he was just drunk. We didn’t stay long; I was too warm.

Neither of us knew that we’d end up going at it all night. Neither of us knew that it would lead us to this day. After I found out, I couldn’t even look her in the eye. This was my fault. I was responsible.

We ended up in his bed that night. In the following weeks, I stayed away from him. It was weird because you looked at someone you’d slept with and imagined them naked. But when we saw each other that day at the house, we soon realised our mistake.

My dad introduced me to my half sister.

My dad introduced me to my half brother.

Vanessa went pale. Dad didn’t even see the change. He said he’d only found out that she existed from a one night stand eighteen years ago. I tried so hard not to think about what we’d done.

Matt was distracted, but looked like he was pretending to be listening to Dad. I swallowed hard. Just how many people can say they’ve unknowingly slept with their half brother?

Ha ha, funny.

As I read the last paragraphs, it reminded me of the classic Star Wars movies, the whole "Luke and Leia" thing but before they knew that they were sister/brother.

The last line was great.
