I was just wondering, how many of you people here actually cheaped out on the bosses? :P

Usually the bosses become tougher when they are down to 1/3 of their HP, such as putting up barriers, and people prevent this by using Mist Charges (as recommended on the strategy guide as well), but I actually found bosses to put up more of a fight and making it a bit more challenging rather than just to destroy them with mist charges when their hp is low.

How many of you here have let Zodiark get down to his last bit of life? It was a pain in the ass right? Having been immune to physical and magic attacks, and each time he puts down his barrier he immediately puts it back up in his next turn meaning you only get one opportunity to hit him about every 3-4 mins or so.

Using Mist Charges at first like some people recommended made bosses a bit too easy, which is why im replaying this game with a few limits. Those limits include-

1 Character
1 Esper (Ultima)
No Mist Charges
1 Handed Swords & Ninja Swords only
All Shields / Helms / Armors / Accessories

Ultima because I beleive she is harder to obtain than the others, simply because of the annoying field effects.

Hell i'll admit I wasn't proud of myself when I used reverse + renew combo on DeathGaze, that just reminded me of the Vanish + Death / Stone trick in Final Fantasy VI (insta kill all bosses).

I actually never use my Mist Charges or Espers because I don't find them worth the MP they consume. Really, I find them more of an annoyance than anything, only hitting for a small amount of damage. So I figure because I never use them I'm just missing something on how to use them right. 6(._. ) I just give my characters the mist abilities to increase their MP, lol.

That's what I did as well. I haven't tried a single character play through yet though.

I didn't use my quickenings or espers either through the second half of the game when I realized they weren't worth the MP they used either.

Quickening

Same story for me as well. I used Belias maybe twice, but thats it. I never really used the espers. I do however use quickening chains. What I do is I get Van Blathier, and Fran with full MP, and then I use the charge. Normillaly I can link between 15-19 average combos. After that ones done i quickly press the triangle button and switch in one weaker person from the other party. I then use that persons quickening. Most of the time you get mist recharges so then you can do another bug chain. So in all you can do a quickening combo 4 times if you do it right, and you can use ethers to restore just one bar and do the proccess again.

I also think Summons and Quickenings aren't that useful. The only time I used quickenings was to finish off the last remaining life of certain bosses that can be annoying while their HP is low (like Zodiark as an example, though I killed him standard).

Ultima will be my only excuse for having a second party member, aside the guest characters that ocassionally join. However by the time I obtain Ultima there wont be any guest characters :P I've thought this through somehow... I still dont know how im going to approach Yiazmat or Omega with a single character though...

single character?

I'm gonna replay just using two characters, a mage and a tank, there are quite a few spots I think you'll hit with enemies that cause single attack deaths, which if you stick to your guns, is a game over for you isn't it? Definitely would be a challenge though!

Yeah too bad theres no such thing as Auto-Life in this game, because if the only character that I decide to use dies then i'll be using another party member to revive him, and if the enemy targets that party member I wont be able to switch him out untill I kill the enemy or the person that revived my character dies... ah well.
