Riku - Gay or Straight?

Those who deny that Riku is straight are the kind of people who write perverted fanfics of him and Sora hooking up. And that's just disgusting.

Riku in KH1 is normal but all of a suddond ever thing changes in KH2.I say he's not gay maybe he's just weird,or has a sercert, or he and Sora are just really really good friends(with a strong gay vibe) ROTFLOL
 
yeah why the hell would they make a character in a disney game gay...or any video game in general i mean honestly, its stupid when people make threads about character's sexuality. unless the character openly says it in the game, no they are not homosexual.

I haven't played KHII and I gave up halfway through Kingdom Hearts out of sheer boredom, but seriously, I don't think it's possible that Riku would be gay, disney would probably allow him to be a serial rapist or murder before a gay person. Obviously I can't judge very well from his actions because I haven't fully completed KH.

My 2 Cents.
As kingdom hearts goes, Riku is a fairly masculine character (AS KINGDOM HEARTS GOES) so I guess you'd have to want to see it to even ask that question. At the end of the day he's whatever you want him to be because his sexuality isn't revealed to us, being a game for young people and all..
 
Wow, it seems alot of you have a hatred or disgust for homosexuals. Riku isnt gay as he wanted to split the fruit with Kari. But if he was, would it really bother you all that bad? I mean, Ive heard "Ewww" and "Thats disgusting." And "He's normal, not gay." Come on people, is it weird if you love someone of the same gender? And this "Disney wont allow it" is very sad. You all act like homosexuality is a disease. Its not. Its genetics, you cant help who your attracted to.

Unless alot of you are homophobic, I dont see the reason behind homosexual hatred. I guess its just the byproduct of the shitty society we live in today, where two men or women cant be in love without others pointing and laughin, or sheilding their childrens eyes. It really disgusts me.

Although I am a huge fangirl of the Sora/Riku Yaoi pairings I have to say there is no possible way Riku is truly gay....his outfit in KH 2 is sexy and rockerboy/punkish.....guys in tight clothes as sexy if they can pull off the look and Riku certainly can pull of that look. Strap him with a guitar and some black eyeliner and you got a new rock star girls'll go ga ga over.

No, it doesn't work that way where people call the first person that acts or dresses differently "gay". I have nothing against gay people and i have a few gay friends and they are really decent and good guys. Next, someone will probably say that Roxas is gay. oh well

Jeez, who the hell cares if someone wants to interpret someone's character as gay?

Frankly, I do think it's possible to interpret Riku as gay - just as it's a possibility to interpret him as straight. It's dependent on what you want to emphasize; if player-response dictates Riku as gay for some gamers, that shouldn't get other gamers who see him as straight to get all in a huffy.

Frankly, the people who call others "shallow" because they interpret certain male bonding as possibly homosexual - they ought to reassess who is being shallow. All you have to do is accept the possibility without getting offended.

BTW, it kinda bugs me that everyone wants to be so assuredly certain that Riku is one way or another because frankly it has absolutely no bearing on the plot. It really wouldn't change anything from the game at all if he were gay or straight or bi.

This, I disagree with. If Riku was after Sora instead of Kairi, he would've set out to find Sora first, not Kairi. Ergo, he wouldn't have asked for Maleficents help to find Kairi and, when he met Sora in Traverse Town, the plot would likely have taken a turn for the better.

Just think about how it would have actually effected the story systematically. It would have actually been very different.

I disagree. After all, just because Sora definitely has a crush on Kairi, he doesn't exclusively search for her first - he's searching for both.

About Riku's plight, Maleficent says that Riku has been toiling away to find his friend (singular) and that Sora doesn't even care. This seems to indicate that Riku was only searching for Sora at first. But also, Riku seemed to believe that Kairi was with Sora, so it could be interpreted that Riku was looking for Sora first, or was looking for both at the same time, or was looking for Kairi by finding Sora first.

And Riku doesn't even have an idea about Kairi's whereabouts until he is surprised with the mission to Neverland where he is helping transport her body.

Maleficent had already poisoned Riku's mind, probably from the moment he accepted the dark portal in escaping from Destiny Islands. And frankly, even if it were Kairi and he did have a little crush on her, I think that Maleficent pulled enough of a mind-fuck on him to convince him to stay with the dark no matter what.

Do you honestly think that Maleficent would have allowed Riku to go meet Sora if she had expected Riku to return to the light?
 
Not to mention, Riku could have looked for Kairi as a friend. Him being a homosexual has no bearing on him searching for a female friend. Nowhere in the game does it state that Riku wants to be with Kairi as more then a friend. Homosexuals have friends who are girls.

Why does everyome think that a buncha characters from all these games are gay?!

I don't think Riku is gay never even thought about him being gay, or any other character in Final Fantasy or KH. Who thinks about this kinda stuff anyway. I just play the game because i enjoy it. I don't play games to see whether or not a chracters gay or not. I don't think any of the characters in RPGs are gay. But anyway ya Riku ain't gay. He's friends with Kairi and Sora so what if he's looking for Sora maybe he was looking for him so that they both could find Kairi and to me it seemed like both hom and Sora BOTH had a crush on Kairi.

Really now? You sure? I thought Disney technically owned Sora, Riku, and Kairi at least. I seriously don't know and am too lazy to check up on it.

It would be nice if Riku was gay (I'm a yaoi fan, heh heh). He's probably not, but I think Nomura left just enough space for us fans who want to, to fantasize about it. After all, Japan would be one of the last places I'd think would be homophobic considering at some point there were more male geishas than female.

As for Riku's clothing in KH2... He does it to show off his bulge like Superman. Just kidding. It can be an influence from what the young kids wear in Japan, or their street fashion or whatever, or just another service (fan service) for fans. I'm not really going to question Nomura's design. Riku's damn sexy.

By the way, Riku's short cropped gloves in KH... I've seen Hizumi (vocalist of my favorite band as you may have guessed: D'espairsRay) wear very similar short cropped ones... In hot black leather of course. D: <
