Wow, seriously? I'm the odd one out here, I guess. I return things a lot - to the point where my family is annoyed with me about it and ask, "...And then you're gonna return it, right?" Lol.
Rarely do I ever exchange because I'm not rich, so if I bought something I don't want anymore, I would rather have the extra money to use it on something I really do want or need. I hate it when the cashier asks me, "Would you like to look around?" No, just gimme my money! I'll buy something, mull over it in the car, mull over it when I get home, and then make my decision on whether or not I'm going to return it. The stuff I've been returning is clothes and shoes. I'll buy them impulsively because I think they're cute, and then I realize, "Wait - but am I ever going to actually wear this?" and go back to return it. I have a whole side closet with nice clothes and shoes that I have not really worn. And by "nice" I mean girly because I'm more of a T-shirt, jeans and work boots type of person, but I like to dress up once in a while when something comes up, and HAVE to.
I even lie sometimes, lol, about my returns just to get my money back. Like one time I bought a clearance item on an online shop and you can't return their sale items or exchange it unless DEFECTED, mwahaha...so I did something to it to make it defected and they gave me a refund right away after showing them the picture. I don't like stores that make it hard for you like that. I think that's really messed up, 'specially since it's online. I can't try it on, so what if it doesn't work out? Don't tell me I can't return it, just 'cuz it's a sale item.
I understand the "return guilt" because I feel it, too, when I do, but I feel like we shouldn't feel guilty or annoying because that's OUR money being wasted, you know? They might have a business, but we have a business, too, called LIFE and it needs a lot of money to function just like their business. The return/exchange is there for a reason, and it's also their company's job to keep customers happy, so our guilt trip should just burn. It's them who should feel guilty.
