As we all know, at the end of FFVII, we see Red XIII, 500 years later, overlooking midgar with baby Nanaki's at his side...

According to hojo, Red XIII was the last of his race.
And according to Bugenhagen, all of the Seto warriors were killed in the attack of the giga's caves...

So where did his babies come from??

Well Red's grandfather was a human. So maybe the mother is a... ok that's actually a little disturbing...

Possible theories that I am making up right now:
-Maybe when the world was clensed the lifestream put more of his race there?
-Or maybe Hojo and Bugenahgen were mistaken and there were one or two of his kind left and one happened to be a female.
-Maybe Nanaki is actually asexual and he reproduces on his own... uh no
-Or maybe my initial theory was correct, no matter how odd it might be.

Haha well we know he's not asexual because he has a mother...and hojo wanted to use him to mate with aerith, since he was a male. ^_^

I wonder...

Maybe he's the last of his species, but certain types of other animals might be able to hold his offspring.

Or maybe they're clones of Red XIII. When we see them, it has been 500 years, a lot of scientific breakthroughs might have enabled it. What with all his friends in the WRO and all.

I think...maybe...Red XIII mated with some other animal, like Omnislasher stated. Or maybe SE forgot all about the whole "Red XIII is the last of his kind"...? Either that, or they didn't forget but thought we forgot about it? Haha, I don't know! To be honest, I've never even thought about it until now.

Actually I just did some reading up on the matter.
I read somewhere that Bugenhagen contradicts the idea of Red XIII's species being extinct, when he says something along the lines of "maybe you'll find a mate while you're gone..."

Yeah, he does say that. But he doesn't specify if the mate is of his speceis. There have been some rumors that Red XIII can mate with humans. We know that Seto was of his race, but it was never specified what his mother was.

And Bugenhagen is also human, so you're right...there is some speculation that he can...(Ugh...) mate with humans. LOL.

At the end of FFVII, the screen indicates "500 years later"

:)

ummm you sure that it was 500 years later, because that scene was in FFVII AC as well

And right after that scene in AC text comes on the screen that says 498 years earlier and you see the scene with the Turks. In the game after the credits, it says 500 years later and then that scene occurs.

I think Hojo said that Red was able to mate with humans or something xD. So maybe Red just found him a good lookin hume.

I know...that seems to be the idea around here.

Ooh no no no no *shakes head* I don't even want to think about that  That is just rather sick and disgusting in itself...Maybe there still was another of Nanaki's kind lurking around and Bugenhagen just didn't know? It's kinda like the FFX thing. Seymour referred to Kihmari as the last of the Ronso but yet there were still living Ronso's. The actual blitzball Ronso team and Ronso orphans, so maybe...

I tend to agree with the earlier theory that Red mates with a different species. Check out the canyon level with the guardhounds in DofC, there is a boss enemy that is VERY similar to Red.

I don't think Bugenhagen is literally Red's grandfather, more a spiritual one.

You're close Bugenhagen is Nanaki's adopted grandfather or something along those lines. He's not Nanaki's actual grandfather.
And about the whole children thing, I think he found another of his species. Professor Hojo found Red 13 in cosmo canyon, when he couldn't find any others he assumed that Red 13 was the last of his kind. Bugenhagen must've thought the samething, but he had hope that there were other like Nanaki somewhere else in the world. That's why he wanted him to adventure out into the world.

Oh yeah that 500 year's later line was changed so that Final Fantasy: Advent Children would make sense.

Hojo states that Red is the last of his species.
Bugenhagen also indicates that he is the last of his kind, and the last protector of Cosmo Canyon...
Bugenhagen is the one who contradicts himself by saying "maybe you'll find a mate"

500 years is a long time. If Red searched the world for at least 250 of them years and maybe a slim chance that a female was left, they find each other, they fall in love, have a baby, or two, and thats that. Or maybe Red finds a whole civilization of their types, when we played FFVII it isn't like we went and explored the the entire world inside out, we only seen keypoints in the storyline.

Don't forget that in that 500 years later clip it shows that the lifesteam reclaims Midgar, the greatest city in the world. Hojo and all the other scientists were wrong on one thing, they said that grass could never grow back on Midgars soil. It was a jungle utopia.. Hojo was wrong once, he can be wrong twice about Red being the last of the species. Even still, when someone dies, they return to the lifestream. Maybe once humans was gone, the lifestream decides to reincarnate some of Red's type. Either the humans actually found Neo Midgar and abondoned Midgar, or the lifesteam wiped them out for being such filthy scum, and I think its the latter.
