O.K. so I keep trying to use my Quikenings and at the bottom it has a time limit bar. During the time limit you can command to do someone elses quikening or what?? I read the guide that came with the game and it says random buttons and like R2 to shuffle but what buttons?? I'll do just one persons and shuffle the hell out of it and try different buttons and it always takes off zero?? If i string together 2 or three it MIGHT take off some of the foes hit points but not enough to justify using all my MP. What am I doing wrong?? Any help here would be great. I know its something stupid

Quickenings aren't like any other limit breaker. It's all about stringing attacks together. The character you selected will do the intial attack but then it's up to you to string all of your other characters into the mix to do theirs. You can go back and forth between them and get high combos for high damage.

When it starts up, there will be as many slots open on the bottom right of the screen as there are alive characters with quickenings. Meaning that if only one character has them, you'll only be able to chain with yourself... so you only get one slot. If you have three alive characters in the main party who have quickenings, there will be three spots. Those spots will randomly be assigned a character, one of their quickenings, or a mist charge for a certain character.

When the quickening "mini-game" starts, you have to check to see if one of the three locations is highlighted. If it is, a button (triangle, square, or x) will appear. Hit that button to chain your attack with another character and quickening. If nothing shows up, which it should within the first second after the current quickening ends, then hit R2 to shuffle. You're basically shuffling the deck. After it shuffles, it takes a fraction of a second for the next set of 3 to highlight... but there is a hesitation. It's very tempting to hit R2 again and accidentally skip right past a chance to chain your quickenings.

It takes getting used to... but the bottom line is that you need to get quickenings for your main party. Not only will this improve your chances of chaining those quickenings but it will also raise your MP when you get more than one, which is nice.
