I got a new game, well pre-owned game today, and I noticed it had a foreign code on it. You know like you have EUR for Europe, and USA for America? I got UKV as like the end bit. I'm just curious as to what it means - Google doesn't give me much help.

Thanks if you can tell me!

I believe it stands for UK Version...? I'm not sure but I checked some sites that has that code info and it refers to United Kingdom or something close to that.

Almost all UK releases had the UKV code on the box cartridge and manual so they are easy
to spot, however there are a few exceptions. The first run of games which have black labels
Wrecking Crew, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Gum Shoe, Ice Climber etc either have GBR code
(Great Britain) or no code at all. If they have no code at all but run on your UK NES at least
you know they are PAL-A.

Also a few games sold after UKV was standard with the FRA code,
R.C Pro AM, Kid Icarus, Solomon's Key and Cobra Triangle come to mind. Most people think FRA
stands for France but it doesn't as France is PAL-B.

That's right there isn't just PAL there is PAL-A and PAL-B, it is easy to spot whether your
game(s) are A or B as it will have a large A or B on the cartridge or box. PAL-A games cannot
be played on B systems and vice versa. UK, Australia and Italy are PAL-A regions the rest of
Europe is PAL-B.
