when I select a whole image to stroke to make a border it doesn't work, how come?

Its so easy
Just Hold CTRL + A
then after select all
goto SELECT menu > Modify > Border
Then depends on how many pixel you want your border be , enter a value .
you can work just on the border .

ya haha, i just had to select "inside" for the stroke

Also you can select the inside part of the border you want
then CTRL+Shift+I to invert the selection.

Or

Use pen with the pixel you want.
Go to one of the corners.
Click and hold it down
then hold Shift down and move it to the other corner .
You can do it for every side
Left / Righ t / Up and down
Or


Hold shift down.
Click on the left upper corner , then left lower then etc.

The simplest way is to do the following

create a new layer
select all
edit> stroke > 1px and center

chunky stroke borders look ugly so don't use them

Jodge sir . I explained it for him by border.
but Expand is working too .
But not always all borders are stright
Sometimes you would like to shape them.
Then you have to do it with pen tools.
or make the selection using polygon tools.
