If you're referring to FFXII as a whole, then merely leveling up increases your stats. Also, certain Augments on the license board increase your HP, so make sure you get those sooner rather than later.

Otherwise, purchasing and equipping weaponry and armour boosts stats considerably, be that vitality, defence or speed.
