Why is it that only Ashe and Vaan can see Rassler?

I know Vaan says it might have been Reks he saw, but I'm still unsure of why it's just those two, is it the nethercite reflecting a lust for power? In which case meaning it's not only Ashe who wants to use it as a weapon.....or is it a reflection of the feelings they have for those they have lost (if so why doesn't anyone else see anyone, everyone lost people to the war)

well im pretty sure the ocuria were trying to use/direct ashe by creating an illusion of rassler from the dawn shard but i have no idea how vaan can see him.

Have you noticed that Vaan always speaks of his brother's death being the most important thing? He never comments on the death of Rasler or King Reminas, both of whom, were more important than Reks. The Occuria foresaw this within Vaan, and could possibly show him the thing he most dearly beloved...and well as the thing he wanted to take revenge for. Most probably, the Occuria saw that he was travelling with Ashe, and so, could urge her to use the Nethicite, to destroy the empire - which is what the Occuria want. They tried to use him in the form of his brother...but after the events of Jahara, whih consisted of the Garif informing the party on what Nethicite could actually do, Vaan probably realised his mistake in revenge. This is why he didn't see Reks at the Stilshrine Of Miriam. (which occured later in the game)

Ashe on the other hand, has a rather arrogant persona. She has a stronger will to use the nethicite, and the Occuria took advantage of this. Anyway...that's my output on it. it may contain some speculation...but I think its pretty accurate.

From an outside view that's probably a fair analysis, but think about it from Vaan's point of view, during a war if you're royalty or member of parliment/president/emporer was lost would you care more about that than losing a member of your family? I certainly wouldn't. Ofcourse losing Rassler and the King means the loss of freedom in Dalmasca (seeing as Ashe went underground) but losing a family member (that last family member you have) would have a bigger emotional effect. So from outside point of view, the King & Prince would be more important, but to Vaan, Reks is. People like Basch and Vossler are true soldiers, fighting for their kingdom, Vaan isn't a soldier, his family comes first. So it is understandable why he only mentions Reks, and not Rassler.

But that aside, I think you're probably nailed it. The Occuria are a strange bunch, I wish there was more information about them during the game, they just seemed to come out of nowhere, the game could've easily survived without them (Venant could've just been some random Necrofiend or something.)

I agree with Gabranth (a good sum up) Vaan was craving revenge for his brother and in jahara Vaan says to Ashe that he dosn't want revenge anymore which leads to gabranths conclusion. Jutst wanted to add the fact that he said that in that storyline with Ashe.
