im going to be buying a ps3 before september 30th due to the temporary drop in price ending on that date, and i was wondering, do you have any problems playing games like FFVII on it, or any other ps1 or ps2 titles?

I think it was FFGuy who asked why some of hos PS1 ttiles werent playing on his PS3. Im not 10% sure what will play and what wont. Youre best looking on the internet or asking the company whom youre purchasing the console from. Or just buy it and keep hold of your PS1 and 2.

I definately share your concern. This is the only thing that worries me about getting a PS3. If the worst comes to the worst then I'll probably keep my PS2 unlike I kept my PS1. That would make things very awkward.

yeah i thought about trading in my ps2 and saving some cash when i bought the ps3, but i think ill just keep my ps2 and spend the money cause i wouldn't want to not be able to play my favorite final fantasies

There is a list somewhere on the internetz that has every PS1 & 2 title compatible with the PS3. I can't be arsed looking for it though. Do that yourself.

Aye, I had a good look through it and for the PAL regions, Final Fantasy VII is not playable. I think someone on this forum said otherwise. Think it was FFGuy, not sure. According to the website though, it says FFVII is not playable.

I think the site is for Europe because we are the ones with the fucked up backwards compatibility.

Heres the website if you want to have a look. If the game is not listed then it is not playable.

Backwards Compatibility Crap

Final Fantasy VII is not working for my PS2 at the moment. It has done before but it doesn't appear to be now. Maybe it's the disc but I can't see any scratches on it. I hoped it was just my PS2 and there was no point in getting a new FFVII from ebay because it would work on my PS3 when I got it. How wrong was I.

I'm just after a discussion with my brother regards to the PS3 and we are considering going for a NTSC version rather than PAL. The reason being is the backwards compatibility in the NTSC version is more sufficient. The other reason being that we would be able to buy other games that we previously couldn't get like Xenogears, Xenosaga I and III, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Chross, Tales of the Abyss etc.

If you want to use you're own memory card from PS1 and 2 you cant insert it into the PS3...instead you need to buy a device that copies the data into the PS3...kinda shit, considering I cant be buggered to save up for the thing.
Instead i use my PS2 to play PS1 FF games :monster:
