PS3
I'm probably just going to repeat what everyone else has already said...but I own both, so here goes:
So it really depends on what games you want to buy...and if you plan on ever wanting a Blue Ray player...and how much internet gaming you plan on doing because:
If you buy an XBOX they have titles like HALO and Gears of War...and whatnot. They charge you for an XBOX live membership monthly if you plan on playing the games online...which is costly. I think you can get Netflix movies off of it too...only if you have the Live membership. Anything online that you do I think you have to have that membership for...so costs in the long run are much higher than if you plan on just using it for the games themselves....while the box itself may be cheaper than the PS3. The graphics are all-right with the HDMI cable that I have plugged into the HDTV...but they are NOT in my opinion as good as the graphics that I get with the monster cable that I have plugged into my HDTV from my PS3. I can't tell you exactly what the number is...but I know that I get 100% HD which is 1080P with the PS3. The load times for games is much faster with the XBOX though, so I will give microsoft that, however with the Xbox I hear fans running often...and I don't hear anything but that "irk irk" with my PS3 when it is trying to load a game.
My PS3 is my choice because of all I stated above...plus the online gaming is FREE on all of the games that I have. I think the only thing you would end up actually paying for is if you got a MMORP like FFXIV and had to pay for monthly usage. Most games have an online option, so if you ever get sick of the actual game itself or have played through it and have nothing to do, play it online. If you have a Netflix account, you can download instant movies for free. I have no clue what the exclusives are for the PS3 since I only own a handful of games right now, but I do own Little Big Planet and I know that was one of them. Plus, we use the PS3 to watch Blue Ray movies and the picture is absolutely amazing on our TV. Much, much better than with the XBOX. The PS3 is more expensive, but I think the cost pays off in the long run with not having to pay microsoft royalties each month to be able to use the internet on it.
