I wasn't sure where to put this, so sorry if it doesn't fit...But c'mon, miscellaneous :awesome:

Anyways, I've recently been looking into buying a PS3. I'll admit that while it might be futile, I've been trying to find the coveted PS2 BC models. In the midst of doing some light research, I checked out the U.S. PlayStation Support site to see what games would work without problems or not.

I was trying to check out FFX, but only typed "Final Fantasy", and I was shocked at the results that came up:

I demand kudos for screenshooting all those games and compiling it into a nice single pic in that attachment ;D

While it seems the PS2 games are fine (aside from FFXI, but firmware updates seems to be all that's needed) I have to say, I can't believe that all the FF PS1 games (well, except FFT) have issues O.O

But like FFXI, it seems most of them luckily can be resolved with proper firmware updates, but there still seems to be issues with FFIV, FFV and FFVIII.

Aren't PS3s suppose to be able to PS1 games without issues in the first place?

So can anybody attest to having such issues or something? I really wanna play my PS1 game discs, mostly made up of FF games, on my future PS3 but maybe I shouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of my PS2 :hmmm:

9 and 7 work well played all the way through both and had no trouble but 8 won't even start up just goes blank some say it does work slightly i think the reason is it has a block on it to work on the one system whick is PSX-1 there are patchs to make it work on emuaters on computer but nothing on PS3 now you can get FF7 and 8 on PSN as a download for $19 each down under in the US should be like $9 around about anyway FF7 and 9 work just download 8 from PSN hope that helps bit slow reply i know

Kudos on the screenshoting Fusionst! :ryan:

I have not played the downloadable FF's on PS3 yet, so I can't respond to those. What I can say is that I'm pretty sure that only the old 80 GB PS3's can play the PS1 games from the disc (as well as PS2 games). From what I understand, PS1 games are played directly, as they are based off of a CD format. The PS2 games play through a simulator or something of the like as those games are on a DVD format. Now because the PS1 games are a CD format, maybe the newer PS3's can play them, but for some reason, I don't think they can. And I know for a fact that the newer ones won't play PS2 games.

I think that in time, the PSN store will expand and we'll be able to purchase and play any and every PS1 and PS2 game, sort of like the Virtual Console on the Wii (though you can't get every game for that yet, but I think we will be able to in time). But I think this evolution will take some time, naturally.
