So each week, I defragment my laptop, use avast! to detect viruses and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

But just lately, avast! (or it might be Malwarebytes, think it's more the former) has been picking up files that are a threat to the system. I want to repair or delete them, but the thing is that it can't actually find them. It's really odd and was wondering if anyone knew what I should do?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. This has been baffling me now for a week or so now.

If you get something in avast like "I threat has been blocked or w/e" That means that the anti-virus program has deflected the virus from entering the computer, and it has never entered your system at all. So it wouldn't be a file on the computer. Usually if avast picks up a file that is hazardous, it will usually kick it's sad ass over to either the virtual paper-shredder known as "permanently deleting", or will send it to the virus vault. It usually won't just leave it on your computer if it's a real threat. It HAS to do something about it. I'm 75% sure this is what you're talking about.

The other 25% is the possibility that the virus is hiding itself or something and not being picked up by the anti-virus program. If you think this might be the case after verifying the first option, you may want to enter SAFE MODE before your computer starts up. Just mash F8 before the "Windows loading screen" occurs. Then on the list select "Safe Mode". Or, if you wish to access the internet for tips or something while in Safe Mode, choose "Safe Mode for Networking". Then go to your antivirus programs and do some FULL scans. Now on Safe Mode the virus won't be allowed to activate itself, so it's fully vulnerable now.

(I use avast! Professional! :3 best Anti-virus software EVAR!)
