as we are all now well aware of, Prince Harry some 3 years ago during a videoing by himself of his squadie comrades remarked on his asian friend as his "paki" friend.

He has now appolgised for this remark, but the media are still blowing it into a giant shitstorm (as usual with the british media) branding him a racist and attempting to get the MOD to file charges against harry for being racist...

Although the remark was a stupid thing to say, they need to remember it was 3 years ago and Harry has appolgised and shown remorse for saying it...having watched the video you can see it was ment it jest, and not as a hurtful comment, even the lad that was called "Paki" did not find it in anyway offensive (his father apparantly does, but hes riding on the back of the media coat-tails for some money obviously)

I find it an absolute disgrace that the media has the outright gaul to call someone who went to 3rd world countries and helped look after AID's orphans and is a fully active member of the charity his mother famously worked for (british red cross) a racist over one comment that was not ment as a racist insult.

I also love how most people have turned a blind eye to the true crime....how the news of the world once again got hands on the video....

seems the news havent learned a damn thing from there multiple lawsuits about stealing other peoples property!

I agree with you I think the media is stupid for focusing all it's time on his comment "paki" friend. First of all the tone in which he said it didn't seem hostile or demeaning in the least. Second of all if someone found it offensive he apologized what more do you want from him a crucifixion? I think everyone is still blowing this up cause he is a prince and is suppose to act regal and all that but he is a man who just made a comment and said sorry when people found it offensive. Leave well enough alone :holyshit:

I think that, on one hand, anyone else would be punished for doing this and he shouldn't be exempt from the same consequence. On the other hand, I think 'offense' has spun out of control, almost as much as Health & Safety has, and that people need to be able to be able to withstand words. Whatever happened to the phrase you learn in school? ("Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me!") It needs to be taught to the law-enforcers, imo.

"Paki" is just a word and shouldn't be any worse than calling someone "fatty", because both are just descriptive, 'offensive' words...but only one grabs the media's attention.

Case scenario from my old job: I used to work with a couple of ethnic minority at my old job that i regarded as good friends, one of them used to tell people to refer to him as Golli (as in Golliwog) as he enjoyed the nickname.

The same guy who liked to be called Golli got into an argument with another ethnic minority (same skin colour as himself) and said "Get on with it you silly Golli git".

The person filed a complaint against him for racial abuse and he got fired for it.

The point im trying to make, some people find phrases offensive where as others simply laugh it off, or even accept it.. unfortunatley some words carry a heavy stigma around them and even if ment in light-hearted jest or a comment between mutual friends, can be offensive to others even if its not aimed at that person.

Here lies the problem, if the person themselves is not offended by the comment, then its not anyone elses place to take offence to the comment as it was not aimed at them, however if it was aimed at them, by all means they are allowed to be offended....this is the exact same situation with Prince Harry and his friend.

people shouldnt be getting offended by it just because it was said, was it aimed at them? was it intended as a nasty racist remark?

No, so people should stop trying to make it worse than it is and stop making a crapstorm out of a comment made between friends!

It shouldn't be blown up by the media, no. But he completely deserves to be punished for it, sorry, but saying "sorry" doesn't cut it for me. And whilst I completely agree with Dave that saying "paki" is no worse than saying "fatty" it's more the history behind the word and that the word is just associated with offending someone because of the colour of their skin. So yeah, regardless of offensive or not, he needs to be punished for it...just not by the media. =/

He wont get punished though hes a prince. But honestly what kind of punishment would you give??? A fine which he could pay no bother?
I think the whole story is just stupid to be honest, hes only making a remark that people all over the world also use. Racism is everywhere especially in the uk, by the sounds of it he wasnt saying it to be offensive but merely as a joke, which although is obviously going to provoke negative reaction ,sadly its not something uncommon.
If the common man was caught on video making racist slurs nothing would come of it, its purely because hes a prince and people expect him to be 'proper' which is just silly.

A punishment would be difficult to give, yes. But I would say that the difference is between a common person and a prince is that due to his high status in society he should be setting an example, as should anyone who knows they have a high media profile, all he has basically done by making those comments, regardless of harmful intent or not, is that he supports the use of racism when he should be setting an example.

But when I look at things from another point of view, he does seem to deserve the shit he's getting, it's not the first time he has made himself out to be a silly, silly boy...swastika armband anyone?
