Ok...
I have had my little discussion with Barty and it's time to return to Coccoon.

Faqs I have read advise you beef up first as the next chapter is much harder.

How do you get back to the plains ?

I can teleport to the area outside the tower as I did a couple of missions outside the mandatory tower ones but that's it.
I would like to go back to the plains and do some more missions,get some gill, items and cp before I go back to coccoon.

Any advice ?

You need to progress somewhat following your return to Cocoon, before you can head back. In fact, you can only go back once you hit the final dungeon -

But I would recommend sticking around Pulse for a bit - the monsters on Cocoon are quite tough.

That's what the other poster said in the help section.He's having trouble.

Of course there's conflicting advice.Some people say leave the plains as soon as possible.I left after a little while and went to the tower, Oerba and then met Barty.
I did look at maps at the two brothers and sister website:

so I navigated back to the plains so I could do some missions, get some items and I hope make some gil to strengthen my party/upgrade weapons and accessories.
