I'm playing FFVII and I'm at the part where the Temple of Ancients was about to turn into the Black Materia. I had Cloud, Aerith, and Cait Sith in my party, and Cait Sith offered to be inside the temple when it turns into the Black Materia. He said his good byes and apologized for secretly being a spy and stuff. So my question is, what would have happened if I had someone else in my party instead, like Barret or something?

I'm pretty sure he goes "Cloud, I was listening in the whole time, and I'd love to donate my stuffed body for the planet." and bounces in.
Then bang, he dies.
and it sucks. :( I think the rest is all the same :P

So yeah.. you could check with someone else too, but I'm fairly sure this is what I remember.

He's not gone for the rest of the game. He comes back later. I mean
Cait Sith's just a robot controlled by Reeve anyway, so he's easily replaced.
But, yeah, he'll come in no matter who you have in your party at the time, and then bang.

No matter who you have in your party Cait Sith will come bouncing a long the hall and be all awesome and offer himself up

So even if you have a party without Cait Sith, he'll still hop onto the screen and, like .Rinoa said, will say something along the lines of "I was following you the whole time!" or "don't think I wasn't here afterall!".

It's sad for a few seconds, but as soon as the Temple of the Ancients
implodes
Cait Sith Mark II hops to the gateway of the temple as if to go "Ta-dah!!!!!" after great night show of entertainment.

So there is no real loss, but the whole scene signifys
Reeves
loyalty to the AVALANCHE group, and that Cait Sith is to be trusted.

Like Argor said, that's true. Cait Sith will come in no matter who you have with you. He offers himself to the group, so he can at least be "helpfull" instead of having them doubt him. I think it's a really sad scene, seeing when I got to that point I was still pissed at him over the KeyStone. =/

But yeah, it's all the same. It's Cait Sith's little pride moment, right there. :D

Lol wtf, wasn't there already a thread about cait sith, or did it get archived or something?

There is a generic thread about Cait Sith. But this thread serves a specific purpose about the event in the Temple of the Ancients.

He may not be Cloud, but Cait Sith is allowed to have more than one thread. :D

Hate to come marching in all negative, but...I actually may have rolled my eyes when I saw him just pop right back up after that temple was gone, with just the Black Materia where it was...

I am sure some of you already know, I've said it every now and then, here and there, but Cait Sith is my least favourite character in Final Fantasy VII. Not just the original game, but the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII as a whole... >.>'

Yeah i'm going to agree with Blue Wolf here.... I hated Cait Sith (no offense to anyone that likes him), i mean yeah, very first time i played the game and got him, i used him.... But then i realized that all of my other characters were much much better. I actaually laughed a little when he so valiantly sacrificed himself.

speaking of Cait Sith, what happened to that fat moogle thing hewas riding, it didn't apear in Advent Children or Dirge of Cerberuce

I have no idea, go make a thread for it. I'm sure there will be ample reasons why this could be though.

I didn't have him in my party at that time. But he still comes and everything goes on the same way. It is always like this when you have more characters in total than in party.
I never actually seen a game in which either making choices (aside of Dating Sim games) or having different party affects the main plot

No offense, but I used Cait Sith only a few times for a few minutes because I just didn't like him, so he wasn't in my party when the place went kablooey. Regardless, as others have mentioned, he comes back :)

Really ? Was still holding a grudge towards Cait Sith .. when he asked Cloud to help out kept on saying the No answer... just didn't trust him at all..

Yeah whether he's in your party or not, during the Temple of Ancients. He still has the desire to sacrifice himself for Avalanche and the planet..

Guess it's way of saying sorry to Cloud and group for stealing the keystone..

He calls, the temple turns into black materia, and then cait sith 2.0 comes while cloud is smacking Aerith. So either way he dies. But what really got me wondering was when he said "Try to remember me, even if another cait sith comes along."
What do you think he meant by that?

Either he was joking to make Cloud and the party feel sad and weep
over his loss
, or he was refering to
that version of Cait Sith
.
Cait Sith 1.0 was no more, and Cait Sith says to miss him.

I don't think its ever made clear the extent of
Reeves control over Cait Sith, or the way that Reeve controls Cait Sith.
Cait Sith appears to have a personality distinct from Reeve, so either Reeve is choosing to have Cait Sith talk and act how he does because he thinks it is funny and suits him, or the toy somehow has a distinct personality
.

Either way I can imagine Reeve grew fond of Cait Sith 1.0
. It's like if you play with toys when you are a child and give them a personality, if they break or are lost it really hurts you, and even a replacement that is exactly the same isn't quite the same toy that you gave that personality to.

It's just like, just before
he dies
, he says
"there's plenty stuffed toys like my body around, but there is only one me".
And that is pretty much it right there.

Brilliant scene in my opinion.
