I got my game used so I never got a manual. What is the trick to player formation? Can anyone point out a good reference or just tell me? I just started the game so I have a red mage, warrior, monk and thief in my party. I have the mage and the thief in the back, the warrior and the monk in the front. so my formation is red mage(b) warrior(f) monk(f) thief(b). I just don't understand how placement affects battle. Thanks.

It's quite simple, the formation of all final fantasys are the same, for FFIII any mages except the red mage depending on what you'd like to base the red mage doing, put them all at the back halfing all the damage it causes. Also will be good if you've not got good armor but good weaponary. All fighting based people like Monks and Warriors and Thiefs should be based at the front. Any one with a ranged weapon should be placed at the back as this won't affect you attack. If your talking about what type of people you should have in your team, well thats a different story...
