In short ninjas> pirates.
Plus pirates lost big time to the Brits and French, whereas ninjas didn't have the humiliation of losing to european armies.

The main reason I didn't choose ninja is because so many people around here think that they are ninja that it just ruins the very idea of it. So Pirate wins for me, for the simple reason that nobody talks about it to death. XD

Why Ninjas Are Greater Than Pirates*

Pirates are slow, and easliy seen because of their big goofy hats
Ninjas are agile, and rarely spotted due to their stealthy nature
Pirates rely on bulky, loud weapons like canons or other firearms, or poorly manufactured "cutlasses" to eliminate their enemies.
Ninjas use stealth tactics and often just their bare hands to neutralize threats, which is why they are rarely caught. Quiet+No traceable weapon = success
Pirates are loudmouth retards why can barely talk because of all the rum they ingest, or have mouth cancer from smoking the pipe too much
Ninjas, however, hardly ever talk, are never drunk, and don't get mouth cancer because the life of a ninja leaves little time to spend smoking.
Pirates are rather clumsy, with their peg-legs and eye-patches, and shoddy swordsmanship.
Ninjas can break your neck with two fingers, and don't even have to be looking at you to do it. Talk about hand-eye coordination.
People often hire ninjas as assassins because of their success rate and stealthness, and ability to not get caught.
No one hires a pirate to assassinate someone. The canon going off would give them away.
So, after reviewing all of these facts, it should be obvious that Ninjas are > Pirates. All the time. Every time. All day. Every day. Period.

Ninjas and pirates are both awesome in my opinion...but since there can only be 1 truelly awesome one then it must go to the ninjas for the above statements among other awesome stuff...

I like pirates more, but ninjas would win.
Ninjas are trained killers. Pirates are just...drunks with swords. Any town goon who's willing to put their life on the line can be a pirate. Same can't be said for ninjas.

Stealth has always been a decisive power, especially in battles.

It's how the Americans beat the British. We used snipers to thin their troops out before charging in. Stealth always has a hand over power...unless said power is so encompassing that it would wipe out anything, stealthed or not, like, say a nuclear bomb. But, since pirates didn't have those and using one would result in an instantaneous radioactive tie...ninjas, definitely.
Pirates would be too drunk anyways to notice! XD
Ninjas win, too, because they have the faster moves, and reflexes, and are actually trained to do what they do.
Pirates on the other hand, are composed of people from different nationalities and such, and do not do well cooperating with historical enemies, i.e. British & French pirates together ---- never a good idea.
