Well here it is, probably one of the best games ever released on the Nintendo Game cube, The graphic may not be the best, but there is such a large variety of rare weapons on there it is unbelievable.

It was once a very popular game to go online with, where thousands upon thousands of people would play, and you would all brag about who has the quickest challenge time, and who hs the best equiptement.

What I want to know, is.... how many people liked this game? and do they still play it to this date even though all the online servers have been taken off?

My Opinion

Well PSO (Phantasy Star Online) is still to this ate an amazing game I have a couple of characters all whom are decent characters. I play with a friend mainly and we are always on ultimate on Episode II, and still even though I use Either my lv. 142 HUnearl and a lv154. RAmar, we still can''t destroy Olga Flow, it's a bit difficult when we go do our own thing, we know the trick of the left foot (or is it right.. hmmm) but still, him using his FOnewearl he has low HP and I have to go rescue him, me doing this then leads everybody to come after me, and using mates, always goes wrong and they dpelete really fast.

Anyway, it is an awesomegame! tell me your views of it.

I had PSO for the dreamcast, it was pretty epic. I accidentally deleted a level 96 character tho. I was not best pleased. she was a cast and my first character grr

The second one got to like 90 something and the STUPID file got corrupted :stare:

I have PSU now I don't think it's a patch on PSO, it's ok for randomly killing things but....well, there's no real sense of achievement because all it is is just missions and crap

Anyway, never played the SNES ones...lol

I had version 2 on the Dreamcast which I never managed to play online so I never got the true experience. You really needed to play this online since the game is so bloody dull and tedious at the heart of it although impressive for a console in those times.

I wouldn't mind playing the old JRPG games since they're usually highly regarded.

How do you mean dull?

Though it is easy to complete the first time, the game is utmost challenging on Ultimate mode.

The reson why I hold this game in so much respect is due to it's multiplayer nature, this was a game that you NEEDED to play together with, making sure you have every aspect of a team covered, your tank, your ranger, your magician, and your support.

This is why I like this game it gets every one involved, everybody can deal damage so you dont have the "I'm not being a healer all they do is heal" no, the healers are the strongest characters on there, though expensive to train, every character deals damage, and every character is needed.

It's a real lively game aswell, I have to admit the online version is far better there are more quests more challenges involved.

The game was dull for me because it never had the story or gameplay required to really entertain me beyond one play-through.

Every mission was the same, get objective and then fight though the same rooms but possibly in a different order, get little bit of plot and repeat 40 times. It was the same problem which I had with the .hack series in that it got very repetitive very quickly.

The battle system was very simple as well, press the attack button three times at the right time to get in your combo. True it had magic and the Mags etc but again it just became too repetitive for me.

Now there was some things I liked like the customization and range of characters and the graphics/soundtrack were pretty good as well but as a game it didn't strike me as the best thing ever.

But as I've already stated I never managed to play it online so I had to judge what what I could play and while some aspects of it didn't impress I know people who've reached 100's of hours on the online game alone so obliviously I missed out on the games major appeal.

ah well I apologise for responding to quickly and not acknowledging your post.. yes the offline version is somewhat plain, the only grasp of the story is within the missions and like you said you have to do them in different orders to get the full background withing Ragol (to those who don't know Ragol is the planet which PSO is set).

Yes my character has something bizarre like 500 hours of playtime.. and before online it was through the roof over 5000 hours.. pretty lame to think I spent that much time on a game.

I have to agree that PSO is one of the best RPGs around. I own Ver.2 on the dreamcast, and play the gamecube version with a friend multiple times. Right now, I'm playing PSOBB (BB means Blue Burst) on the schthack private server. This is one game I would not let down for a long time.
