Overthinking

When debating with a speaking from the hip method, often times people bring their heart into it, rather than their mind. While it all sounds well and good on occasion, but it often times is purely opinionated rhetoric.
Are you familiar with "reason"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reason

You probably are, but I just wanted to point to an argument which points to, err... where speaking from the hip uses the head.

You might be talking about something different here, but it just kind of sounds like you're talking about "reason". Personally I love the ability to use "reason", and if someone is arguing with me, I wouldn't be insulted if they used it (assuming they use it well).

I notice that there are a lot of debaters here who back up their points with real experiences. I could in theory do the same, though perhaps not a whole lot for this subject... but I just kind of try to shy away from this approach, since I like to tackle trying to debate. The problem is, is that if I try to let everyone see my point of view in harmony, without saying anything debatable, there won't be much to argue about, which when talking about debates, I consider to, err... not be a good form of debating.

No what I meant was impulsive and emotional thinking vs Rational thinking.

It's called reactionary debating. Sometimes people throw subtle jabs at the OP expecting for him/her to throw a big hissy, instead of addressing points. This leads to further derailing of threads.

Rational thinking is more, taking all sides in, and then diagnosing problems/using a point to point reference/ and hierarchical nurtured cognition.

If I was speaking with someone who seems like they are emotional disturbed on so many different levels, I'm less likely to take them seriously in a debate/post then someone who can actually control themselves and speak their mind.
