So I've been replaying my game, "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance" recently. I'm up to the part where you arrive in Valhalla and have to help Asgard. Walking around here, I've noticed several similarities to FFVII.

The Gods refer to Earth as "Midgard".
One part of Asgard is called Niffelheim.
Also, Odin is in VII.

I remember seeing quite a few more but they escape me right now. I'll post them up if I run passed them again. :wacky:

Anyway, given that SE have often taken historical figures or manipulated various forms of mythology, do you think that these similarities are coincidental or intentional?

These are, in fact, intentional. Usually role-playing games tend to stem ideas from many mythologies. For example the bad guy from Tales of Symphonia, Yggdrasill, is named after the Yggdrasill Tree which is in Norse Myth. Also, I believe there was also Heimdall in FFI which is also in Norse Myth. So this is not coincidence, it is quite intentional.

I've noticed this too when I was playing Marvel : Ultimate Alliance. I was quite convinced that Niffleheim and Midgard had similar names to two of FFVII's city and town, Midgar and Nibelheim.
I also forgot the other relationships and connections in M:UA and VII. We'll find out when Dave does. :monster:

yeah nearly every character and boss in final fantasy gets its name from some form of mythology whether it be norse or oriental and many others.
behemoth is norse, tiamat is in many myths and even religions.
quazacotl is aztec.
the lifa tree is based on the yggdrasil tree aswel.
just look up any any boss name or location and they will most likely have a mythological origin.

If you're looking for a site that tells you all about the names of the characters/bosses, try this one

And Ragnarok is also Norse. It means the End of the World, probably also why one would always receive it at the end.

Every name in the ff series has a meaning like sephiroth - tree of life
stuff like that every name has a meaning or is used to honor someone from the past lie the legend of el mio cid

Yeah, I kinda noticed that the FF series and most RPG's are heavily based on Norse. I understand the FF's reasons though, they summon these gods so they use their names. but maybe it would be better if they started making their own summons and not basing them on existing ones.
