Square Enix is to form a new entity, called Square Enix Europe, which will handle all publishing for Square Enix and Eidos products moving forwards, with the aim of creating "one efficient and powerful structure for game publishing."
Square Enix Europe - a working name for the time being - will be headed up by current Eidos CEO Phil Rogers, will also combine the companies' sales and marketing offices - a move which will result in a certain number of job losses due to role duplication, although GamesIndustry.biz understands that no decisions on precise numbers have yet been made.
"Unfortunately we are expecting some jobs to be impacted directly by this in both Europe and North America," read a statement from the company. "We are hoping to minimise this wherever possible and offer support and advice to any employees directly affected."
Meanwhile in the US all sales, marketing and distribution responsibilities will be transferred from Eidos Inc to the region's Square Enix office, headed up by John Yamamoto.
The Eidos name, while no longer associated with publishing, will continue to live on through the various development studios around the world, which will all now report into Square Enix Europe.

It was probably to be expected. but it's still going to be weird to see old Eidos IP's such as Tomb Raider and Hitman with the Square Enix logo on the cover.

I think I heard that they were planning to merge a little while ago. So I'm not really surprised by this, although the idea of it seems a bit weird to me. Seeing Tomb Raider with the SE logo will be weird (although I don't really care, seen as the last time I played a Tomb Raider game was when I was still using my PSone) and I forgot that Hitman was an Eidos game...

Well did they not gwt Yunas Final Fantasy X-2 design from Lara Croft right? Well Yeah it will be weird to see square enix on Tomb Raider games. Well I do like the idea alot. So who knows maybe Lara will make cameo appearences in FF?

Aren't they still independent though in the games they design such as Tomb Raider, I remember reading somewhere that some top guy from SE said if they merged the name the Edios section will be still doing what they normally do >.>
Although, Square Enix "Europe" can only be good for us. :ryan:

I don't think we'll be seeing cameo appearce of lara in FF anytime soon but maybe in kingdom hearts lawlz that'd be great.and yes europe can only be good for us.

The article doesn't really mention who all the old Eidos-owned development studios will report to in the future. It could be that they will all report to Square Enix Europe which is headed by former Eidos CEO Phil Rogers. If that is the case, I imagine that Square Enix will operate much like Eidos did in the past and control all the old Eidos IP's.

And yeah, the publishing branch of Eidos being turned into Square Enix Europe should be great for us in the PAL territories. Hopefully it will speed up the release dates in the future :)

Lara is awesome, but her recent games have been a disgrace to her name! A big reason for this is eidos being uncertain about how much money to put into the games and ending up with an uneven half finished product. (Angel of Darkness was eidos's fault folks!, they rushed it out before it was ready!).

Hopefully since everything square enix touches turns to gold (with a few exceptions) tomb raider will get back on track.

And if Lara Croft ends up in final fantasy it would be the most hillariouse moment of my life! She would be soooo out of place in a fantasy JRPG. I wouldnt mind references to her though, but even then i doubt it would happen since references to its own series are scarce in final fantasy (excluding IX).
