Nibelheim Magic
Cloud Strife x Tifa Lockheart
One-Shot-Story

Stars shining brightly, along with the moon that leaned in with a soft glow into the small town. A gentle, yet cold breeze came from Mt. Nibel, as a spikey haired boy sat on top of Nibelheim's well, in just his t-shirt, and shorts. It was getting cold, and he had been waiting for quite some time. It didn't matter, it was all worth it. She was all worth it.

"Hey Tifa,

Could you meet me at the Well tonight?
I'd like to tell you something.
I'll understand if you can't though...
- Cloud Strife
(your neighbour)"

It was a small note he had written a few hours ago, to the pretty girl that lived next door. Her hair had the dark colour of pure chocolate, while her eyes had a bright brown spark, mixed with some cherry red it seemed. Her smile was beyond gorgeous... Cloud sighed softly, as his legs swung back and forward. He remembered her all too well. That girl, Tifa Lockhart was her name, had an important place in his heart. He really liked her, and would love to hang out with her like her friends could. But they would never let him. They wouldn't even let him near her. He thought it was something he did wrong, but after a while, it was clear to him. They didn't like him, just like all the people in town didn't like him and his mother.
Just as another sigh was about to escape his lips, a familiar voice took his breathe away.

"Sorry I'm late..."

Cloud tensed slightly, as the girl in the cyan coloured dress, and matching sandals sat down a slight bit away from him on the Well. Silence fell for a few seconds, until she spoke again.

"You said you wanted to talk to me about something?", Tifa asked. Her voice was gentle just as always. Yet for some reason, Cloud still thought she didn't notice him, how he wanted to play along with her and her friends... He never got invited. If anything, he only got chased away. He nodded softly.

"Come this spring... I'm leaving this town for Midgar.", his eyes had a bright sparkle in them, as he stared ahead of him. He was going to prove himself.

"...All boys are leaving our town."

She probably meant her friends. In this small town there were what seemed five kids that were Cloud and Tifa's age. Four of them were boys, and Tifa always played outside with them. Cloud always wished he was that fourth boy, being able to be close to the girl he had a huge crush on... He blushed lightly as he approached her.

"But I'm differed from all of them. I'm not just going to find a job.", he turned his back towards her, "I want to join SOLDIER. I'm going to be the best there is, just like Sephiroth!", Cloud climbed to the highest part of the Well, as Tifa's legs swung back and forth slowly. A small smile on her face. He was a cute boy, she really liked talking to him like this for some reason. She felt really comfortable at the moment, yet she was... Worried? She wasn't sure what this feeling was. She heard a lot of her friends tell her they were going to leave town, but now that Cloud had just said he was going to, she felt... Sad.

"Sephiroth... The Great Sephiroth.", Tifa said, almost bitterly. Why did he want to be like someone else. He was perfect the way he was. She blinked slightly as her cheeks flushed a slight red. Why did she think that though? After all, she didn't know much about him, but he just seemed... Cute. "Isn't it hard to join SOLDIER?", she asked, as a long silence followed.

She was right. It was hard, but he'd prove himself to anyone who thought he wouldn't make it.

"... I probably won't be able to come back to this town for a while.", he fell silent right after his line. He realized he wouldn't see Tifa for so long, but... For some reason, it felt so much long to him now that he had told her. Did he regret his decision? But he couldn't now. He already told her. He had to. He wouldn't let himself back away. He wasn't sure what he heard, but some sound came from Tifa. She sniffled softly. "Huh?", Cloud glanced slightly over the Well, to look at the lower part where she was sitting.

"Will you be in the newspapers if you do well?", Tifa asked, a soft smile on her face, though her back was turned towards him.

"I'll try.", Cloud nodded. Her smile grew slightly with his answer. Tifa nodded, taking a deep breathe.

"Hey, why don't we make a promise? Umm, if you get really famous, and I'm ever in a bind........ You come and save me, all right?", she almost blushed as the words left her lips.

Cloud blinked slightly, swallowing as he glanced down at her. "What?"

"Whenever I'm in trouble, my hero will come and rescue me. I want to at least experience that once.", he would be her hero... She smiled brightly with a soft red glow on her cheeks.

"What...?", Cloud couldn't believe what she just asked him. It was what he wanted, that's why her sudden question came like a slap in the face. Tifa felt like her brave moment was fading slowly, and grabbed her knee as she leaned back, looking up at him.

"Come oooon--! Promise meee---!", she said with a soft chuckle.

Cloud smiled back at her, the red returning on his cheeks, luckily for them, it was night, and the change of colours wasn't noticed.

"All right...... I promise.", Cloud climbed down the Well, as he jumped onto the ground, showing off as he jumped off from a pretty high part. Another chuckle from Tifa was heard, as Cloud offered her his hand to help her jump off. She took the offer, and held Cloud's hand as she landed on her feet. He greeted her on the ground, with a smile. Tifa smiled back, as she had this weird feeling in her stomach. He softly let go of her hand, as her hand slipped back to her side, so did his. They stood their for a moment, until a door opened at Cloud's house. A blond woman showed up in the door opening.

"Cloud?"

"Coming, mom.", both Cloud and Tifa walked towards Tifa's house, as they stopped there.

"Night, Tifa.", Cloud said.

"Goodnight, Cloud.", Tifa replied, as Cloud began to walk towards his own house.

"Cloud?"

The small boy turned around, hearing Tifa's voice calling his name.

"Hm?"

"Be careful?", she said, referring to his idea of wanting to join SOLDIER. Cloud smiled, knowing what she meant, and nodded.

"Okay, I will be."

Tifa, with a small wave to Cloud's mother, nodded at Cloud and jogged towards her own house, as the little girl disappeared inside. Cloud walked through the door, that his mom held open for him, with a huge grin on his face. Him, and her, "their" promise. He felt like the luckiest kid alive.

This was a very sweet story!

I've never actually read anything from FFVII fanfics about them when they were children.

You really did an awesome job on this. It kept me interested and you ended it in such a way that one would thing it were a prologue. XD I feel like there's another chapter coming that I can't wait to read. XD

Keep up the lovely writing!
